Hi ladies,

I had a bit of a bleed yesterday. Blood red...filled about 3 pant-liners (sorry for the too much info bit). Went to mayday hosp, which was an absolute waste of time as they would not give me a scan .

Am now sat at home wandering if there is somewhere else I can go today in surrey to put my mind at ease.

By the way, almost all preg symptons are gone....can that happen this quickly after a bleed.....PLEASE reply soon....

How many weeks are you? Are you booked in with midwives yet? Im sure there should be somewhere you could ring for advice.

IME I think it is unlikely you will be offered a scan today. Most sonographers seem to work weekdays only as far as I can tell.

How many weeks are you?
I think St George's in Tooting has a walk in EPU but not sure if it operates during the weekend.

Otherwise I am afraid it is quicker to visit GP in the morning and get them to refer you.

Call your out of hours doc, and explain all symptoms, tell themn how worried you are etc...I mc'd over a weekend and my doc told me to go straight to hospital, and they did scan me.

I had a bleed on a Saturday at a similar stage of pg and decided to leave A&E till the Monday, knowing it would be busy. When I went in Monday the emergency scan slots were all taken by people who'd been in over the weekend.

Although you won't find anyone to scan you today by going to an A&E linked to an EPU you might get a slot tomorrow.

(sadly although this isn't what you want to hear, symptoms can disappear that quick if you've had a missed m/c, where the baby died a few weeks ago and your body doesn't instantly recognise it )

St George's EPU is open weekdays and Saturdays from 8.30 am until 11.30am - they will scan you but it is first come first served so you just ahve to wait in line. It gets very busy and people turn up before the clinic even opens.

A & E will just refer you to them anyway.

I was there on Saturday and the wait was 3 hours. I'm about the same stage as you and, at that point, had similar light bleeding. They scanned me but said it was too early to tell so I ahve to go back in 2 weeks so they may not be able to tell you much yet anyway.

Hope it is all ok....

I know how awful the waiting is. I'm now bleeding very heavily so am certain the pregnancy has gone but it would be nice to know for sure what has happened.

Can't help answer your question but I can offer up previous experience. At around 8/9 weeks in my first pregnancy I had a massive bleed with clots and it needed sanitary protection over an hour or two.

I called a private scanning facility and they saw me within the hour.

I had a scan which revealed a healthy baby with a visible heartbeat, which had to be the most wonderful experience of my life, as I had been convinced it was over.

Try not to get too distraught, bleeding can happen in pregnancy and if I'm anything to go by (DS is currently fast asleep upstairs) can result in a baby.

If you can't get an NHS scan, a private scan will cost in the region of £70 and they can often fit you in at short notice. Good lcuk.

Hi waiting sorry to hear you are so understandably distraught.

Not sure if you would travel as far as London , but St Thomas Hosital (5 mins walk from waterloo station) has something which used to be called the Early Pregnancy Unit but I think now called Emergency Gynae Unit, you can turn up without appt and wait to be seen by a nurse, they won't usually scan the same day you come in, but can give an appt to come back in next day or two for a scan. It may even be open 24 hours a day (may be worth calling / looking on internet to check that before setting out if you were going tonight tho)

llareggub's story is so encouraging. Really hope that is the case with you.

Let us know how it all goes, the not-knowing what's going on is torture isn't it.

I had a similiar experience - it wasn't a miscarriage by the way, it was a haematoma, a big patch of old blood basically - over the weekend in the same area as you.

Basically on a Sunday nobody would see me, all I could do was wait until Monday morning. St Thomas' do have an EPU but don't scan at weekends unless emergency and as devastating as it would be for you, there is nothing they can do either way so they don't prioritise it.

Good luck, hope you get seen nice and early tomorrow.

Hi ladies...with a lot of persistances and relentless googling on the internet I managed to find a doctor who would do a scan today/this evening.
For anyone else interested he does scans everyday of the week on request. Here's his website page

www.yourgynaecologist.co.uk/web-content/ContactUs1.html

Its private and costs anything from £150 - £200. I know a lot of money, but for me worth it as he confirmed everything was ok.

Now I can sleep soundly in the thought that everything is fine and that my DC will have a sibling in about 6months..... .

Thank you all for your kind replies...really appreciated.
