If you've had 4 or more miscarriages, what tests did you have and did you eventually have a baby? Trying to cling on to hope here.

Did she have tests that pinpointed a problem? Or was it just down to luck?

I had 4 m/c after DC1. They all happened over a one year period and I had extensive testing. Nothing was found apart from slightly low progesterone and it seems that this was causing the m/c. My 5th pregnancy after DC1 was a clomid cycle which did not increase the progesterone levels, it seemed to decrease them but I was put onto 400mg of cyclogest pessaries twice a day which are natural progesterone and had a completely straightforward pregnancy resulting in my 2.5 year old DC2. I am about to start to TTC again and plan to use progesterone supplements immediately.

Interesting, my story is sort of similar to Dannyb's. Five m/c. Found nothing really significant on testing except slightly elevated lutenising hormone and one very slightly polycystic ovary. Was put on 25mg clomifene, got pg on second cycle but miscarried again, dose of clomifene put upto 50mg, got pregnant again. This time was given cyclogest pessaries and had a perfectly normal, healthy pregnancy resulting in DS. Ladylush, it took us 5 years to get our son, and we had pretty much given up hope when it happened, so there is always hope. x

Hi ladylush.

i have had 4 mc's but before and in between 2 dc's.
i then had karotype test done, and found i have a chromosonal translocation, can be a common cause of recurrent miscarriages.

it's a simple blood test, for both you and partner, he may be carrying it. anyway treatment with IVF/PGD is very sucessful.

there's so much they can do for miscarriages, but you have to push hard to get treatment, you will find clever specialists who are very helpful. don't give up

Hi ladylush, I had at least 6 miscarriages and was sent for a range of blood tests on the NHS which showed I had elevated clotting agents in my blood. I had to take one low dose aspirin tablet per day with immediate effect and continue it throughout my pregnancy. I immediately conceived naturally and went on to have identical twin girls. I was also put on progesterone suppositories from once I got a positive pregnancy test.

If you have had 4 miscarriages then perhaps you might get the blood tests on the NHS if you have a sympathetic GP.

Good luck

x

If you look on the fertility friends web site they list all the recurrent miscarriage blood tests you should ask for. (I think there is a specific section on repeated miscarriages)

I just copied and pasted the list below from the fertility friends website. I printed it off and took it into my GP and he was absolutely brilliant and agreed to send me for the majority of these blood tests. I think they took 11 vials of blood in total so it was all done in a matter of 10 mins and took a week to get most of the results which immediately showed up my clotting problem.

Good luck xxx

Thanks flockwallpaper and opinions. I will print off the list and show it to my G.P. I have been tested for karotyping (as has dh) and both results were normal. Also tested for clotting/thrombophilias etc - again normal. Thyroid - have underactive thyroid but am on Thyroxine. No anti-thyroid antibodies. Have had uterus scanned but no dye test.
