Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

My period was 3 weeks late, and so everytime I went to the loo, i'd check when I wiped to see whether or not it had arrived so I didn't get caught short. This is yesterday afternoon by the way. Nothing when I checked, literally a couple of minutes later i'm getting changed ready for work and then get these god awful cramps which make my knees buckle - I couldn't stand or straighten my stomach for a good half an hour. Then I notice I feel 'wet' down there - I check, and there's quite abit of bright red blood. Not a huge amount, but enough to scare me.

It scared me because of the pain, and my periods never start like that. My flow is always really light on the first day, almost like a discharge (sorry, tmi ), yet this was bright red.

It lasted for around 5 hours, I wasn't 'dripping' blood so to speak, but it was there when I wiped, gradually getting less each time. Nothing at all since last night and nothing all today. My stomach feels like it's tied into knots, rather than a dull back ache which I normally get with periods.

I had a mmc in Aug 06 and it's just brought back flash backs

Is it worth doing a test? I bought one earlier tonight that i'll either do later tonight when DP gets home, or in the morning. But part of me is scared to leave it until the morning incase it all (if anything) goes wrong in the night.

Bloody hell, long, sorry any info/similar experiences would be great x

Yes do a test - you will need a scan to check a miscarriage is complete as any leftover buts can cause infection. My second miscarriage was just like this. So sorry

Bloody hell thanks. Definately a miscarriage? No clots, and very brief bleeding.. part of me hopes it's just a dodgy period rather than going through that again.

Given i'm only just 3 weeks late, would it be best to do the test with the first urine of the day? Or would it not make much of a difference..? Scared of leaving it til tomorrow, getting a negative result, and then thinking "Must have been period then".. and it wasn't. I'd then have to officially go through another 2 before anything could be checked.

No you will get definitive results anytime after about five weeks. Yes confirmed miscarriage - bled for ten days. Got pregnant 14 days after that too - ds is 4 months now. Hope things work out for you if you are in the same situation.

Crap. Hoping it's really just a dodgy period now, but then I feel guilty for wishing it away if I do get a +.

Ah it's normal to feel torn like that. I was ridiculously accepting of my last miscarriage because I had one the month before I conceived DD as well so I told DH it was a good sign and he was very . I was pretty upset but I also felt like it was a sign that where there is life (albeit briefly) there's hope.

Yeah you're right The last one hit me hard though - DP has an almost impossible sperm count so we were both ecstatic when I got a positive. Went to my 12 week scan expecting to see it bouncing about but it was gone Almost felt like i'd let him down

Since then we've had no luck so i'll be absoloutely gutted if this does turn out to be a MC.

Was your bleeding clotty? Did it stop after a few hours like mine? My last one was a mmc so I had no real miscarriage symptoms at all - hence me feeling like this is my first time round lol.

It's just the cramps that worry me really. Sorry for picking your brain just abit confused at the mo! x

I've just got a pretty strong positive with a first response test pretty scared though to be honest.

Had no more bleeding, don't have cramps this morning - but I also don't have any other 'symptoms' of pregnancy really.

Had a mmc before - do I need to call anyone and explain i'm up the duff but have had a bleed/cramps/mc before?

Oooh - no experience to give, but I'd get down to the GP - maybe they can take blood today and in a couple of days to check if your hormone levels are rising ?

I hope it works out the way you want

You should call your GP and ask for an emergency referral to the early pregnancy unit. There are three possibilities:

(1) You were pregnant and have miscarried
(2) You were pregnant but are miscarrying and will start to bleed again
(3) You are still pregnant.

Sorry I know it's horrible. A scan will reveal all though!

I had a bleed like this at 6 weeks - sudden onset of heavy red bleeding that lasted about 5 hours and gradually stopped. No clots but some pains.

I had an emergancy scan and saw bean with heartbeat. Bean is coming up for his 2nd birthday now.

No cause ever found for the bleed!

What a lovely positive story Superscribbler

I think I need to collect them to re-read if when I'm at that stage again

Sorry should have said re 3 - it can be that you were carrying twins and one has sadly died but the other is intact. I hope it's good news but prepare yourself for the worst. The fact that you are conceiving is positive though.
