Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

chemical pregnancy or a miscarriage?

i had a mmc at 6 weeks in april. 5 weeks ago I had nausea, dizziness and other symptoms more strongly than before i miscarried last time. I did a cbd and got 1-2 weeks pregnant. my symptoms vanished after a week and all tests then said negative. Dr confirmed it would have been a chemical pregnancy. Af was 2.5 weeks late and heavier than usual, lasted about 2 weeks and stopped on weds last week. All fine I thought until Friday when out of the blue I got excruciating stomach pains and passed (sorry tmi) something similar (although slightly smaller) to what I passed after my mmc. I'm confused as I thought a chemical preg would just be a heavy period not something actually solid? Do I need to see a Dr again or am i wasting their time and is this completely normal? Very grateful for any advice/experience.

Sorry to hear of your losses. If you had a positive test, medically it should be referred to as a 'miscarriage'.

A chemical pregnancy occurs so early that most women wouldn't know they were pregnant. Many GPs get confused about this and unfortunately it can impact on care. It also needs to be described as a miscarriage if you want to test for any health issues causing these losses (although after 2 it is very rare to have a 3rd).

What may well have happened is that you had some 'retained materials' (placenta tissues etc') which you lost after the early miscarriage. This is quite possible. There is a small risk of infection (and a very, very low risk of ectopic or partial molar) and therefore you should go to your GP and request a scan at your local EPU.

The miscarriage association has very useful advice to print off and a helpline if you think he might try to fob you off.
