Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

I'll apologise now for the tmi post. I found out on Friday I've had a mmc. Should have been 11+1 but only measuring 6 weeks & no hb.

Started with pains & bleeding red blood yesterday (though not particularly heavy) & the pains got really strong at lunchtime, after which I passed a small puddle of blood & then the pains stopped. Still bleeding a small amount but not even as much as I do on my period. Nothing's happened overnight.

What's bothering me is I haven't passed any clots/tissue whatsoever. A couple of tiny stringy bits but thats it. When I lost a baby at 9 weeks there was loads of blood & tissue loss, severe pain (needing gas & air) & this is very very different.

I suppose what I'm asking is can a mc where the fetus stopped growing at 6 weeks really be so little or should I still be expecting to pass clots etc? Does it sound like I haven't passed it yet? (this is my gut feeling)

I just want it all to be over Sad

This is really tmi but when I had our first mc (at 10wks but sac and baby stopped developing at 6.5wks) I had lots of bleeding, lots of small clots and then finally one larger piece of liver like tissue which was about the size of a large ish new potato / small tangerine.

Lots of cramps before passing it and once it was out, all the bleeding and cramps pretty much stopped.

So sorry you are having to go through this. I found paracetamol and codeine helped, ibuprofen isn't great if you're bleeding apparently.

Thanks so much for your posts & so sorry to hear about all of your losses too.
I've had some horrific pain this morning, couldn't do anything except roll on the bed, clutching hot water bottle & groaning/sobbing. Started bleeding heavily & was sure it was gonna happen, but the pains have eased off a bit this avo & although am still bleeding heavily, am pretty sure I still haven't passed the sac/placenta etc. How long is this gonna take?! I really thought it'd be out by now. I can't cope with another 2 weeks of pain like this.

I mc'd at 8-9 weeks, but the foetus was only 5-6 weeks in size. I think I spotted the sac come out, but it was tiny. it looked quite like a quashed blueberry.

Mine started with some spotting on one day, then stopped, then next day I had some proper blood. On the third day it really got going. I bled for 2 weeks in total.

I'm sorry you are going through this. x

Omama

Sorry you may not like my answer: during my first miscarriage I mentioned above, I started properly bleeding on the Friday and passed the sac a week later, with lots of bleeding, clots and cramping during the week.

I think this length of time is less common and in hindsight, I would have gone into hospital much sooner - partly for better pain relief and also as it would have given me the option of medical or surgical management.

If you're in a lot of pain or bleeding heavily, do go to a&e. the worst they'll do is send you home with some better drugs and I found I felt much happier with he support of the nurses.

I think its very easy to try to be too brave in this situation

euro - am never gonna look at blueberries the same way again!

Sugar - thanks so much for pointing out I didn't need to grit my teeth & get on with it.

The pain did subside on sunday, but started again mid monday morning & by lunchtime was pretty severe, I couldnt cope any more, so dh took me to A&E. By time I got there I was gushing with blood.

They gave me morphine & buscopan which was amazing & completely stopped the cramps. They thought some tissue might be stuck in my cervix, hence the pain, but they couldn't see due to heavy bleeding so was admitted for an overnight stay. I finally passed everything monday teatime.

However, scan yesterday morning showed retained products, so ended up having d&c yesterday afternoon. Feeling pretty tender today but glad the ordeal is over.
