Any good news stories after late miscarriage(s)?

Lovely ladies, i am fortunate to have a beautiful little girl, but need to decide whether to try for a second child one last time. I am 40 this month and have had two miscarriages in the last year (at 23 weeks and 14 weeks). I'm wondering if there are any good news stories to draw courage from.

Thank-you.

I'm so sorry for your losses. I don't have any experience of 2nd trimester mc (although have had 3 1st trimester ones) but I didn't want your post to go unanswered.

Have they given you any reasons for your miscarriages? Have you had any tests? I know that chromosomal abnormalities, blood clotting issues and cervical incompetence can be causes of 2nd trimester mc so wondered if you'd been tested for any of these?

I know several people who've had 2nd trimester losses and gone on to have one or more healthy babies. Particularly if you've done it once I'm sure you'll do it again but I completely know how scary and stressful it is trying again.

You are entitled to checks at a specialist centre, I would push for them. Astea mentions many of the causes are identifiable and treatable. Wishing you all the best!

Thank you tea and squizita. I have had all the routine tests; the only thing of relevance is that I have a blood clotting issue - factor v Leiden - so in my last pregnancy I was on heparin and aspirin for this. However it made no difference, and again i experienced sudden unexplained bleeding which led to a loss. My consultant has told me there is no other intervention I would be given.. I half considered trying a private clinic where they would do various immunology tests but they are not (yet) evidence based and not supported by the nhs..so I'm not really sure at all if whether it is a good idea to try once more.. But thank you again for responding. X

Ah Tayto......I often thought of you and wondered how you were doing.A friend once told me the only thing that helps is time and its such a hard decision after everything you've been through to try again. I hope its ok to share the news that I'm almost 20 wks pregnant with a rainbow baby......it's not been the easiest of pregnancies because we have had a couple of scares.(my son and dh have contracted parvo virus and Im not immune) I have my 20 wk scan on Monday and praying all will be well. If it helps I'm 39 so didnt feel like time was on my side.....I also dont have any knowledge of factor v leiden etc Did you have this when you were expecting your daughter? You are very brave Tayto I will pop along and see how your doing whatever you decide, take care xxxxxxxx

Hi. I lost babies at 24,28 and 20 weeks. Was due to an incompetent cervix and I also have a clotting problem. I now have 3 dcs so please don't give up hope. Re the hospital-be as assertive as you feel you need to be. Ask questions and expect answers. All the best.
