Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

How long before your AF returned?

I had a D&C yesterday at 14 weeks. The baby died at 6 weeks :( I'm just wondering how long it was before your AF returned and how long you left it before trying again?

I'd like to try again ASAP but think I need to get my smear test fitted in there somewhere as its been over 5 years.

so sorry to hear, I'm sending you big hugs.

I had a MC at 12 weeks, 4.5 years ago.
it was my 5th pg after 4 healthy boys, so totally out of the blue.

I don't remember much of what happened in the first few months after loosing baby - apart from that I was eating a lot of popcorn (weird)

we lost her in Oct and I'm pretty sure I had AF by the new year, so probably took 6-10 weeks, but I honestly don't remember.
I was advised to wait for one period before TTC, but there was no way I would even contemplate TTC until after the due date, which was 3rd May.
(I'm having a hard time right now as she'd be turning 4 around now... I really miss her!Sad)

After the ERPC I just couldn't let go of the pregnancy.
my SILs had 5 MCs combined and were keen to try asap every time, but I was frozen in my own little bubble of "what should have been".

As the weeks went by I was thinking - oh she'd be kicking by now, or we'd be having the 20 week scan or I'd be packing my bags or whatever. It was comforting and horrendous at the same time.

Because we had named her Yasmin we planted a jasmine plant on her due date to remember her and instantly a lot of the pain was lifted somehow. I could finally let go of the weight of my "fake" pregnancy.
we had pink cupcakes and strawberry milk with the kids to celebrate the short time she was living "with us" - we still remember her like that every 3rd of May, which we call Pink Day.
I find it very healing to be allowed to remember her on a specific day.

it took me another 3 months to pluck up the courage to TTC, while on holiday - it worked, DS5 is our only "away" baby.

last year we had a little girl - and currently planning number 7...

28 days after D & C. I was amazed but that's what happened...

It took 6 weeks till I stopped feeling very tearful. I had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks.

Thanks for your replies ladies and I'm very sorry for your losses :( So far I've been ok emotionally. The first few days were horrific but since then I've sort of settled down into just dealing with it. I already have 2 children so I can't let myself get swallowed up by this. Plus my two kids are simply fabulous, they make me smile and laugh so much it's hard to be sad when they are around. Something I am eternally grateful for right now.

To some extent I'm worried because I do feel so level ATM, like I'm waiting for the floodgates to open.

The last couple of days though it has hit me that I'm no longer pregnant :( I keep looking on the pregnancy boards and suddenly feel like a voyeur and an outcast, because I no longer belong there.

I want to start trying again ASAP so I'm praying AF doesn't take months to reappear. My bleeding has almost stopped completely now which is a good sign I think.

I was also wondering if having the smear will have an effect? Should I not TTC that first month? I was going to wait until after the smear even though I will probably have missed the boat but now I'm wondering if its a bad idea?

I think I'd wait for the first period just so it will really be a new start - if you get pg immediately you'll use this date a lot, so you do't want any negative connections.

then I'd have a smear straightaway and either TTC or wait for next AF, just ask the person taking the smear test or your gp.

I don't know know if a smear effects anything, in regards of conception or otherwise, all I know is to have it between AFS and not within 6 weeks after birth.

I had one when 5 months pg with DS4 and found out I had strep B.

I didn't realise you could have them whilst pregnant Amazing. What prompted you to have one then?

had read about strep B infections and symptoms and realized that I must have had it. plus I had a vile thrush, so wanted something done.

I had a vaginal smear - I've no idea if it is the same as a cervical smear or not.

I'm pretty sure that a normal cervical smear is not advised during pg, because they look for cervical tissue changes, and the result might be compromised because of pg hormones or whatever. whether it would ffect baby or not I've no idea.

so I say just get one done, then go for it!

I had a mmc at 12 weeks followed by ERPC. AF arrived 26 days later. Very light bit more painful then normal.

34 days later 2nd AF arrived. Omg its been horrendous. Flooding & really painful.

Normally my cycle is 24/26 days. Light periods so those has been a shock!

A cervical smear is safe for baby I have been told (had a LOT last year when we started TTC and 3 biopsies, all to tell me cervixes get sensitive when you come off the pill causing spotting ... as the gynie nurse mentioned on my 1st visit! Ah well, best to be thorough I guess).

My cycles got weirdly shorter since my 1st MC which could contributed to the next 2 (if it affected implantation). I went from a 30 day cycle to a 22 day cycle! Shocker! AF itself was quite clotty and achey in the months after but not too different. I am now suspicious of the 'wait 1 period' plan as it DIDN'T work for me... my luteal phase was too short when I conceived right after basically. So I would wait 2 to check whether the cycle is long enough and when you OV ... but then again if your AF is 'your normal cycle' it's probs OK.

I had the op a week ago tomorrow and my bleeding was very light and pink until today. Today it feels like the first day of my period. Very sure back and bright red blood. Is this normal? Is it AF or just more bleeding?

I had a natural mc and to my amazement AF arrived at the normal time. It was clottier than a normal period though.

A smear is not recommended in pregnancy because the hormonal changes can affect the result. My surgery also won't do one within 3 months of a mc (I was somewhat irritated when I trotted along dutifully to be told that - the mc was on my notes but they sent the appointment anyway) for the same reason.

Consultant has called. Iron levels are low so he thinks I need to take iron tablets. Results from what they took away are all clear. No obvious problems and molar so he's given the all clear to try again! Feel like a weight has been lifted xxx

Great news red. Hopefully AF will return just as normal for you (and me - I had a medically managed miscarriage at 11+4 last Friday). Fingers crossed for us both.

Enjoy Pink Day tomorrrow Amazing Smile

Redwall I had ERPC for a MMC in April, didn't blew afterwards until a week later. I thought it was my period but when I rang the hospital (just to check it was normal!) they said it won't be AF that early, it'll be that my body has realised what's happened - like a delayed reaction. Still waiting for AF to arrive, so can't tell you how long for me I'm sorry :)

Redwall. Sorry for your lose. I mc in March this year but I didn't have a D&C. They wanted me to let it happen but I was a lot earlier than you. My AF arrived about 29 days after.

After mc all I wanted was to be pregnant again, this was/is not taking away from our lose. After speaking to my doctor , ladies on here and reading a lot we decided just to carry on ttc with no break. I had my one AF early April following mc and got A positive test this month. Lots of ladies on here seem to get a positive relatively quickly following mc. You just need to do what your heart feels is right.

redwallday - the prescription iron tablets from the gp made me very ill.
may I suggest you take "Gentle Iron" tablets from Solgar or
or try Floradix Multivitamin liquid with iron. both very good

pointless thanks, very sweet of you
we had strawberry milkshake & cupcakes with pink icing and fresh strawberries. It always feels like an odd birthday party without the birthday girl, but it was lovely to remember her.Smile

pointless also I'm sorry for your loss - and of course everyone else's.
I do hope you'll all get BFPs soon!

Thanks again everyone. The bleeding seems to get worse if I'm doing too much (which is often!). Really want the bleeding to stop now so I can get back to normal and start trying again.

Redwall, I'm sorry for your loss.
I had erpc in December after mmc at 9 weeks.
I didn't really bleed until a few days after the op, and then that continued for 10 days or so. My period came three weeks after that, so about 5 weeks from erpc.
I felt tired so took spatone (which you can buy in boots) to sort out my iron levels. I think we started ttc as soon as I stopped bleeding. Tbh, having sex seemed one way to get back to nomal and we don't have condoms in the house!
Still ttc now. Really hoping I 'll be pregnant by the time July rolls around as that's when I was due.

Sorry for your loss too. It's actually amazed me how common mc is. I mean 90% of my friends have told be they have experienced it at least once too! Do you think I would be ok to take those conception tablets or do I need something just specifically for iron?

Really hope you get your BFP soon. I must admit the thought of not being pregnant by the due date does upset me. It's hard enough watching Friday come and go every week as that's the day that marked another week gone for me.

Thanks, Redwall. I think you could take both iron and preconception vits. There's no reason I can think of not to take both (and if you are anaemic you really do need the iron).
