Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Has anyone had an ectopic pregnancy after chlamydia and then had a successful pregnancy?

Hi, I'm looking for a ray of hope after suffering an ectopic pregnancy in my left fallopian tube. Luckily it was discovered early and I had a salpingostomy where they managed to remove the pregnancy and save my tube.

I had chlamydia for 9 months a few years ago and I think that may be what caused the ectopic. Even though the doctors said I had no evidence of scarring in my tubes, I have read that chlamydia can cause an ectopic even without scarring, as can damage the fine hairs within the tubes that push the fertilised egg along. I know that loads of women have had chlamydia for longer than I had it and had no problems with pregnancy, but I guess everyone's different and I was just unlucky.

I feel very down at the moment and I would desperately love to hear from anyone who has had chlamydia and an ectopic pregnancy and then went onto have a successful pregnancy.

Thank you.

Can't comment on the chlamydia, but I've got 2 wonderful boys post an ectopic pregnancy.
You might have more luck on this ectopic pregnancy support thread or the ectopic pregnancy trust message boards.

Thanks for the reply. Congratulations on your two boys, that is great to hear. I have posted on the 2 other threads as you suggested.

Hiya. As above, not sure on the chlamydia part but I've had two healthy children with only having one tube after having an ectopic pregnancy in 2009. I fell pregnant with my daughter the month after the ectopic so don't lose hope, it can be done!

Im very proud of my left tube ha!

Thanks nectarini and ninjacat, I'm so pleased for you both for going on to have healthy pregnancies. Ninjacat, so you basically kept both your tubes. Did they warn you of a possible future ectopic in the tube where you had the first one?

Yes the risk does go up and the fist few weeks before anything can be seen on an early scan are pretty terrifying.
I was surprised though when they said I had ovulated this time from the same tube that was opporated on.
I'm 36 weeks pg now and just about allowing myself to get excited.
I think you can't get too hung up on the odds if you know you will try again just make sure you go straight to epu if you have any worrying symptoms in the first few weeks and ask your dr to arrange a scan at 6 weeks to make doubly sure everything is where it's supposed to be.

Thanks Ninjacat. It sounds like you conceived through the so called 'damaged' tube so it must have healed well after the operation and there can't have been much wrong with it in the first place so its good you kept it!. Its great you're allowing yourself to get excited now and I hope you really enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. I just have one other question, my ectopic was located in the part of the tube that's next to the ovary. What worries me is that once the egg was fertilised it made no attempt to move down the tube. It just stayed put. Did you (or anyone else reading this) have an ectopic in this part of the tube? Thanks x.

I'm not sure exactly where in the tube my ectopic was but if the tube doesn't look healthy they will usually remove it as its actually really hard to save a tube and just cut out the pg.
my surgeon didn't turn up for my op and as luck had it the consultant was walking past the operating theatre and one of the theatre staff grabbed him (as you do) and asked him to do the op. thankfully he agreed. When I woke up the theatre staff were very happy to tell me that if he hadn't been the one doing the op I would have lost the tube.
Hope someone else can give you a more informed answer.

Wow that is amazing luck you had! You must have been so pleased he did the op in the end. I was booked to have mine with a female surgeon who I heard was very good however emergencies kept coming up and they kept putting back my op. In the end they said it was likely a more junior dr would do it instead but I asked if I could wait for the consultant and luckily enough she did it the next day and saved the tube. If I have another ectopic in that tube then I will probably ask them to remove it but Im just hoping it will be ok and will heal well after the op. Im surprised how little pain I've had in that tube since the op so hopefully its healing well. x

Ninja what great luck with the consultant!

Sarah, it's amazing how our bodies can heal themselves, hope you are taking it easy and looking after yourself.

They couldn't tell me what caused my ectopic pg, which I found very hard to deal with for a while. But then I just let go of that and focused on getting myself back to normal, emotionally speaking. It was very hard but I couldn't control the state of my tubes. Though I did have acupuncture with a fertility specialist which in my mind helped me to conceive this baby (26wks pg now).

I think I might try acupuncture as I've heard it can really help with fertility. Im so pleased for you both with your pregnancies. Im still going through a bad patch but hopefully will feel better in time x

Thanks Sarah, hope it will be your turn for a healthy pg very soon. I loved having acupuncture, felt it boosted my energy, gave me a sense of control back as well, like I could do something to help myself after such a horrible experience where everything was out of my control. It's very normal to have bad patches as I'm sure you can see from others' stories, in my mind it shows you're working through it and not just trying to shut it all out, which for me def wouldn't work. Just bear in mind the bad patches pass. Take care

Thank you x. Acupuncture sounds great, just the sort of thing I nee. Can you tell me how you found a good acupuncturist?

I went to a local centre, I've been going for years about lots of different issues. There is a website acupuncture.org - for the regulatory body for acupuncturists, I checked she was a member before I went. Good luck, hope the bad patch passes soon.

Hi, me again! I have a question for ninjacat - after your salpingostomy, did you occasionally get pains in that tube? I sometimes get a dull ache and I wondered if that was normal?

Hi there, I just had surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy, I have lost the left tube, this was my first pregnancy, although it was very unhealthy, so prob for the best, app my right tune looks healthy from the outside according to the surgeons, so at least I have a chance.
Sadly I caught chlamydia years ago and although it was treated within weeks I still think this has caused some damage to my tubes.
Still if all else fails, you will be offered IVF to ensure your baby will develop in correct place, countless women have got pregnant through their remaining tube or through IVF with little trouble - we will try again in a couple of months :) - good luck

hi there,

me too just had an ectopic (right fallopian removed) after ttc for over 2 years. heartbroken to be honest but it turned out the tube was damaged. I had chlamydia when I was 20, quickly dealt with but feel SO guilty for my poor husband if this contributed, and consultant at kings a bit judgmental.
like you lynniepink the other tube looks healthy apparently. want to focus on getting well and possibly preparing for ivf/ttc in the next few months (am 37)
also trying to get out of the negative mind set - 'why is his happening to me?' not helpful. acupuncture a great idea. feel shellshocked- a&e sunday, called back in monday-tube and ectopic removed that afternoon, now look like a pincushion. this saturday I was 4 weeks pregnant, supposedly.

good luck everyone xxxx

Hello, I have had chlamydia years back that was treated in that same week I caught it , I'm am 21 years old, I found out I was pregnant last Friday and found out I was having an Ectopic oreganacy based from the chlamydia I had in the past. Sadly, I lost my right tube but the doctors said my left tube is perfect. Anyone out there who had the same issue and situation, and was able to concieve and have a successful pregnancy. I really want to ttc again sooner than later . They put me on the depo shot , so after these three months , im going to get off it and try again, hopefully I fall pregnant and can have my miracle baby!

Dear all

Dear all

I know this thread is old but maybe there is someone able to answer the initial question sarah00001 asked? I was also diagnosed with Chlamydia two years ago and it was treated within three weeks or so. A few weeks ago, I had an ectopic pregnancy that had to be removed surgically. The tube was preserved. Surgeon said all looked fine but I am still convinced the ectopic had to do with my infection with Chlamydia. So I am also looking for a ray of hope... has anyone had this happening to her but still got pregnant after?

All the best
