Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

chemical pregnancy, what to do next?

I'm currently miscarrying what seems to be a chemical pregnancy. I had several both positive and negative pregnancy test results over the last week and I started bleeding yesterday (day 31 of my cycle).

I spoke to a doctor on NHS 24 who advised me to see how things go and if the bleeding continues to consider it a miscarriage. He said to do a pregnancy test next saturday and if it's negative, leave it, but if it's still positive to get back in touch. I think it's highly unlikely to be positive but wonder if perhaps I should still do one to make sure the hormones are down...?

My other question is, if the bleeding comes to an end this week, should I just carry on as normal or do I need to be checked out to make sure everything's gone? I know for a fact that if I'd not done any early pregnancy tests I would be none the wiser and would have thought this was just my period.

Didn't want to leave this unanswered - I had a chemical pregnancy at 5 weeks and doc said that as it was so early, there's no need for further checks, it will just all come out naturally.

(also no need to wait with TTC if this was your plan, I got pregnant the very next month).

hi thank you for responding. there seems to be a mixture of opinions about when to ttc. I'm really worried it's going to happen again if I don't wait but your story is encouraging. congratulations. I take it that the subsequent pregnancy was ok?

18 weeks now and fx, so far all good. Asked the doc about ttc and he said that yes, you should take a bit of time after a later mc, but he did not see any reason to wait after a chemical.

That's excellent news Hazle. I"ve read a lot of women seem to conceive quickly after. I've just had a negative test back today so hoping to get back to ttc (once the spotting has stopped.....) and "conditions" are right. Still quite worried about it happening again though but I suppose there is only one way to find out.
