Hi, I'm 41 and starting to realise I may be seeing some symptoms of perimenopause. I'm seeing periods which are getting closer & closer together - sometimes every 3 weeks. They start, very , very gradually like as if something is stopping the full flow so the overall period is now a full 7 days. Palpitations now and again too but by far the most annoying symptom is of a very sore vaginal opening and area around my urethra for about a week before my period is due and for a few days during my period. Its fine after the end of my period then.

I mentioned this to my nurse when I last had my smear and she said its just dryness. I don't feel particularly dry so I wondered if it could be a hormone imbalance?
Does anyone have any remedy? I've tried vagisil but it doesn't really do anything except sting!

Hello, i'm 39 and in perimenopause. I have been having vaginal dryness for 2 years now and mine gets worse a few days before and during my period. I too get palpitations and quite a few other menopausal symptoms.
I'm on HRT now and it got rid of the dryness withina few days.
You should get a doctor's appointment and ask to have your hormone levels checked to establish if you are in perimeno. It sounds as if you are.
