Help - advice

I had a scan last week and was told at the scan that my lining was thin (hardly anything there) I have just spoken to a GP who has said the lining is 9mm considered thick and she is going to write to gyno. Does anyone have experience of this. I have no other symptoms and was going just as a check,

Geri

Yes. I have thick womb lining and have just had two polyps removed. The problem with thick lining is that nasty things can develop/embed in it. For this reason my gynae has fitted a Minervra coil which keeps the lining thin, but also obv acts as a contraceptive.

Marmite- it's a Mirena coil .

Geri- it depends on where you are in the mneo journey.
In women post meno, anything over 5mm warrants investigation but you have already had that so the info is confusing; 9mm is not thin but would be normal for someone still having periods and expecting a period.

Why were you checked out? No one is sent for a scan unless there is a reason- usually bleeding between periods.

A thick lining can be a sign of hyperplasia- when the lining grows and grows if it not reduced by the hormone progesterone either naturally occurring during your cycle, or with a Mirena coil as part of HRT or contraceptive. Hyperplasia is not dangerous as such but can develop into atypical hyperplasia which can then develop into pre cancerous and then cancerous changes to the lining.

You need more info because either your GP has sent you for a scan when you don't need it and your lining is normal if you are not post meno ( 12 months without a period) or whoever did your scan has made an error in their report.

I went for a scan as I thought I had spotting but in fact it turned out to be my breakthrough bleed a week early and was just spotting. I had the apt so I thought I would still go. I was having irregular periods before I started hrt in October last year.

confused- are you on HRT?
If so, when in the cycle was the scan?
If you hadn't just had a bleed then the lining could well be 9mm.
If you are on a conti ( no bleed HRT) then 9mm is thick(er.)

Allowances are made for HRT.
