Meet-ups

Just curious...

I've lurked around this board for ages and am really curious to know that if you all meet up and your anonimity disappears, does that affect how you post on Mumsnet? Or do the benefits of new friends outway this? I'd be horrified if I met someone I know, as I've divulged things I wouldn't tell friends on here.

Just got back from a meet-up and I don't feel any different towards my fellow poster's posts or inclined to not post any personal stuff.

I'd say on here just what I'd say in real life.

It was lovely to put a face to all these nicknames.......I couldn't remember half the real names though!

I fin d that I post "better" when the two I have met are online at the same time - they can take the piss and I welcome that

(except when its Nicksie)

Have met up with 3 MN members so far and feel no different at all about posting. I have never posted anything I don't believe or mean, and have never deliberately tried to hide my identity anyway so have nothing to worry about it IMO.

I thought it was lovely to put faces to names and don't feel differently about posting. Don't know how I'd feel meeting someone I knew well already as I think you can be really honest and open on mumsnet in a way that sometimes you can't for various reasons with people connected to your family/work etc
anyone?

I think that having met people actually makes it easier to "talk" to them - like talking to friends - but I haven't (I don't think) ever mentioned anything I wouldn't tell someone in RL. If I subsequently wanted to discuss something embarrassing I would use a different name though!

I have now met - counting on fingers - at least 12 mumsnetters (not all at once) and nearly all of them are really really lovely!

(But if I discovered someone I knew already had been reading what I've written I might feel a bit funny...that's different somehow. Interesting!)

squirmy, you can "listen again" (or just "listen" if you missed them) to this week's episodes if you can't wait:

The Archers Catchup page

Mind you, can't listen and mumsnet simultaneously - well I can't. Have to play solitaire or something. (Or smack the pingu )

Hey, out of turn here, but have you realized that all the smack the pingus but one have been out of commission? I'm not sure whose, but we had to go through most links to one that worked tonight.

It's the one whose Pingu didn't skip. I liked the skipping. I'm still happy, though.

Janh · 07/02/2004 20:28

JJ, my one below works - what do you mean by skipping though?

The original pingu skipped. It didn't plop headfirst in the snow. It was happy about it, I think.. my husband sent it to me. It's out of commission now.

Janh · 07/02/2004 20:56

Mine skips, JJ! (You have to hit it right though - too soon and it plops.)

Have we all had bad days or is it just the weather?
