Started the atkins yesterday and I've woken up sweating, shaking and feeling overall weak. Barely able to stand! I ate plenty yesterday, obv kept it all low carb. But had more than enough food. Could it be because I'm breastfeeding and need more food overall? I've had cereal now and feel much better. But obv ruined the no carbing ConfusedConfusedConfused

It's years since I did it but I wouldn't do it while breast feeding. Glad you're feeling better.

It works very well for lots of people but really not for others. Did you have enough fat and drink lots of water? If not then that may have affected you but you need to listen to your body Smile.

I drank constantly and defo had enough fat. I think it was probably too much for my body. Going from constantly munching in bread/chocolates/chips to just veg Hmm

I think I'll cut down but not completely eliminate and see how that goes...

If you just cut out white and processed carbs (no bread, rice, pasta, white potatoes but still have small portions of wholegrain bread, beans, pulses, sweet potato and fruit for example), perhaps drop all carbs other than veg for evening meal - and also avoid sugar then you should make a big difference and find it a lot more sustainable.

Yeah sleep that's the plan now. Only problem is I'm a all or nothing kind of person Hmm Tbh I don't have loads to lose and ms DS is just 5 weeks old so don't mind taking it slower. Definatly going to cut out the junk food I've been eating and will switch to whole grain. Still feel weak and lethargic so may have something else now...

5 weeks old Shock - give yourself a break woman! Eat plenty of veg and good fat, but the odd bit of cake is practically a necessity at that stage and breastfeeding!

It's not called 'carb flu' for nothing!

Eat plenty of fat, drink lots of water and, most importantly, keep your intake of magnesium, sodium and potassium up - so cook your food with salt/add salt to food, eat salmon, spinach, avocado and natural (full fat) yoghurt, and all that will help. It passes after a couple of days.

Oh, and no reason why you can't low carb when you're breast feeding, as long as you make sure you're eating plenty, and that you're getting your carbs mainly from vegetables and salad.
