Am totally determined to do LC way of eating from Monday.

My sister has been completing a very strict no carbs no sugar diet and lost 7lb in the forest week! she was only ten stone to start with!!

She did this diet very strictly for 2 weeks and now is very low carb with very low sugar and feels healthy and looks great.

I'm totally desperate to do the same. I did try my sisters diet but was starving taking boiled eggs or cold omlette to work and truth is that I get a black tea and chocolate croissant from prey every morning for breakfast and feel addicted to morning sugar :(. If the day starts off badly I must end up eating rubbish.

Am so wanting to eat well and get into a routine- is there any way this can work for me do you think? Will it work if I have a rubbish breakfast?

It will work if you want it to. But you are already putting barriers in your way/making excuses

Once you have started then you WONT feel hungry. It's breaking the sugar addiction.

Um, losing 7lb in a week, especially starting from 10st, is a really bad idea. I don't think you should be emulating your sister.

I agree my sisters diet wasn't healthy however sorry that a was typo, I was head meant the that she was 12 stone!

I guess it's just needing to break the sugar habit, it's the only thing which makes work bearable in the morning. I actually feel that I can't function till I've had my (decaf) black tea and chocolate croissant! But if it's a will power thing them I just need to break the habit

Try different things for breakfast - prepared the night before if necessary so you can take it with you. Favourite breakfasts on the go for me are egg mayo with ham or bacon stirred in, either eaten with a fork or on little gem lettuce leaves, tuna mayo in same way or cold sausages/Chipolatas. And I have my morning coffee (with milk and caffeine) because I wouldn't function without it. But then I drink plenty of water and only have 1 or 2 cups of tea/coffee for the rest of the day.

Thing is, starry, you aren't doing a low carb diet if you're eating the croissant. And I know you know that! Grin

It's a habit for you. It's not a necessity. And all habits can be broken if you want to break them.

How about plain (full fat) yoghurt? Do you like that? You can have it with vanilla extract or, if you're doing Bootcamp Light, some nuts/seeds or berries in it.

Oh, and KateCroydon - there's nothing unusual in losing 7lbs on the first week of a low carb diet. However, it won't be replicated in the following weeks, especially if someone doesn't have that much weight to lose in the first place.

What BIWI said.

Plan your breakfast. If you are eating enough you won't be hungry. Honestly. And the great thing about low carb is that if you are hungry...... You can just eat something.

I have fallen off the wagon quite spectacularly lately but am starting again on Monday. My breakfasts will be egg mayonnaise or ham spread with Philadelphia and rolled up or Philadelphia with bits of smoked salmon mixed in. It takes about 3 days for the cravings to subside but they will. Drink loads of water too.

If you are moving from a high carb diet to a low carb one, you WILL be hungry at first, and you may also feel a bit flu-ish and headachy for a few days - it normal and is your body adjusting (your blood sugar levelling out too).

It's important to remember a few things- carb=sugar they are not two different things so watch out for things you think are fine because there is no (table) sugar in, but are carbs anyway...

Eat enough fat and protein! Too many people try to keep low fat and low carb - a recipe for disaster!

For lots of info and great recipes Marks daily Apple blog is a great place to start...

You need fat with your breakfast. I tend to eat more in the morning. Sometimes I have 3 eggs with mayo, and ham/crispy bacon, some mushrooms...

I'd definitely add some fat into your breakfast. Can you stomach cold meat - sausages, cold roasted chicken or cold chops? I often have that plus a hard boiled egg and a sliced tomato. Do you like smoothies? Sometimes I'll make a smoothie with almond milk, frozen blueberries, two scoops of protein powder and a tablespoon of coconut oil instead and take it to work with me. I also add spinach to make it a "green smothie" but that's not for everyone I know!

I found that I needed to consume a good amount of fat at breakfast in order to keep my appetite in check all day. A solid meaty breakfast means I'm rarely hungry til early afternoon.

I am not sure that you'll get the results you want by eating chocolate croissants every day. They're fine as a treat but you eventually you want to eat 80/20 in favour of the good stuff, if you are keen to see good results.

A croissant would be my breakfast of choice, so i feel your pain!

Honestly, persevere with the full fat yoghurt if you can. I found it hard to stick to low carb for the first 4 days, when i really wanted sugar and wanted to eat all my usual foods - luckily motivation is still high during those 4 days so youi could resist the urge to binge.
After that - the cravings and sugar rushes/ drops disappear and its all much easier.
Just get past that very short period of sugar withdrawal, it is worth it.

Have you thought about wee egg muffins for breakfast? I make in advance, bung in the microwave when i get to work and eat while my PC is starting up.
