Breakfast for the office?

I am an awful breakfast eater but save the lectures, it's not by choice!

I have never been able to eat breakfast since my early teens,
I feel physically sick at even the thought of food for at least 2-3 hours once I have woken up.

I do make fruit or vegetable juices though and drink one of them and a glass of water 1st thing.

I can usually manage something once I am in the office by 9 but we have no microwave and I don't know what to eat. I'm fed up of grabbing a yoghurt, banana or a raw food bar and most of the time I will then skip breakfast and just have a snack and then lunch.

Hard boiled egg, boil a few and put in fridge, take a couple to work each day.

I honestly believe that if you don't feel like breakfast, you shouldn't eat it. I don't even insist my children eat breakfast. We have been conditioned by (yep, you guessed it) food manufacturers to eat something as nutritionally devoid as cereal whether we are hungry or not.

Wait until your body tells you it is hungry and you will get a need for what ever your body wants. that might not be until lunchtime or it might even be dinner time. Don't ignore the hunger signals, but never eat when your are not hungry either. that just doesn't make sense. Listen to your body.

Just because it is breakfast you don't have to eat typical breakfasty stuff. So, when you ARE hungry eat slices of meat, cheese, eggs or whatever. I often have a cream filled coffee.

I'd avoid the juice as it's pretty much just empty carbs.

For when you do feel like eating at work:

  • Chopped avocado sprinkled with grated cheese and topped with seeds
  • Take frozen fruit out of freezer and put in a (leak proof!) container....by the time you are hungry it should have defrosted and you can mix it with your greek yoghurt for a change
  • Hard boiled eggs - as they are, or mashed with butter, or mixed with chopped avocado etc. I hardboil several at once and keep them in the fridge for chucking in lunchboxes, picnics, having a snack etc.
  • pancakes like this nomnompaleo.com/post/5568966009/egg-foo-young-ish-spinach-egg-ham-coconut ... bit of effort in advance but they really don't take long and you can make more than a days worth at once.
  • mini-muffins like this nomnompaleo.com/post/7486819479/prosciutto-wrapped-mini-frittata-muffins

Agree with what's been said. Skip the juice (it's only sugar) and don't eat until you're hungry.

We don't need breakfast, it's a myth.

Oh hooray! Permission not to have breakfast. I can't face food early either. I thought I was odd.

Thanks for the no breakfast advice - I suppose it is really drummed into us how we 'must' eat it!

All of the juices I do are homemade - not shop bought and most of them are vegetable with only a little fruit m. I have some skin issues which they really help so I wouldn't want to stop them. It's usually like - 1 apple. Small chunk of pineapple, 1 carrot, handful of spinach, broccoli stalk, cucumber and wedge of lemon. Sounds gross but it really works for me and makes my tummy really flat.

Smile

Most of the time they have like 1 apple

The juice does sound nice - but take care. try to note how it makes you feel - do you want to eat more carbs after you have the juice. Try to balance the juice with some protein at the same time.
