Anyone care to join?

Also need to ask, can I use fry light and Barocca? ( Not together obviously!)

I liked the Harcombe diet. Sticking to low carb (which is the same I guess, bar the carny meals!) I lost loads in phase 1.

Can't remember though if you can use fry light, I would just use olive oil whic I know is allowed. I know she says a multi vitamin is good to take but don't know if Berocca is ok.

I lost tonnes of weight with Zoe Harcombe, and like Snatchoo, I tend to stick to low carb now.

I would have thought no to Fry light, and would suggest coconut oil, or olive oil if not using at very high temperatures.

I find that Berocca messes with my blood sugars - there are sweeteners in it, so I would be inclined to use something else.

The cookbook is excellent - I still use a lot of her recipes.

I've had a good day, but I am craving food now. I think I might have an early night tonight save me from raiding the fridge crisps cupboard

2nd the cook book - no pictures but lots of recipes which seem to work, all great for healthy eating but some not so good for low carb (rice or beans based). I remember the butternut squah recipe as being yum.

I fancy making that too. I do regret buying both books on kindle though, cos it's hard to flick through!

Please tell me it will be worth it if I have porridge oats made with water? Yuck!

Dds only like 'water' porridge, ds only likes 'milk porridge!'. I prob prefer it with water haven't had it in ages though. Cinammon is a good addition to porridge and cinnammon is supposed to help woth weight loss.

Actually I prefer porridge with water.

Cook it slowly on the hob, so the oats themselves become creamy - keep adding hot water a little like you would with a risotto.

Good tips thank you.

I have a birthday bash on Saturday and instructions are, bring a bottle and a plate of nibbles. What can I take that is not raw veg sticks?

naice cheese (are you allowed dairy yet) or parma, serrano style meat from a deli, olives tapasy marinated peppers? You could put it on a board andstick some ribbon on add in some kind of jar of chutney type thing?

Yes, I finish phase 1 today, so will do phase 2 over the weekend, and do another week of phase 1.

Lovely idea thanks Grin

Panadbois - you can have porridge oats with skimmed milk. There's no fat in it y'see.

God Phase 1 was hard the first time I did it. I felt ill the whole five days!

(And I meant 'carby' not 'carny' up there!)

I couldnt get on with level 2 but if you managed level 1 then what about low carb boot camp, or the anna richardson thread sounds quite similar to level 1?

I was getting bored of bacon and eggs to be fair. And I'd run out of all other meat Smile

Will have a look at those thank you x

It would be great if this thread took off on here. I find the forum on her site hard going to be honest. You have to pay for a start! There are also some very dominant posters who can be quite curt to newcomers and the moderators are quick to shut down threads if the debate gets a bit too lively ie. if you start to disagree with someone!!

And many of the people on there have deviated so widely from what Zoe Harcombe actually advises that it can seem quite off-putting to a beginner who is using the book as their guide. Unfortunately the ones who have deviated the most (ie. live on tins of tuna, no salad/ veg just eat meat, base their main diet around 100% chocolate) are the "super posters" and moderators so Personally speaking I find it very cliquey.

There are very few people who eat much in the way of carbs on that site unless they are newbies. It's a shame because I like Zoe's books and there are good articles and some good science behind it.

And Zoe if you're reading this ( I know you're good at searching these things out!) I would have liked to say this on your site but haven't the money to pay for membership Smile

I've ordered the older book to have a read of. I've been low carbing for 5 weeks now.

Sorry for going awol, haven't really been doing it this week.
I had a Chinese takeaway last night and was suffering from belly ache straight after. This is confirming to me that my body doesn't want white rice and deep fried chicken in batter.
Will I ever learn?

Back to bio yogurt and some nuts and seed this morning.

Morning. I lost 4 pounds un phase one and suspect it's back on.
I don't recommend the porridge! I find having meat for every meal very expensive, but using frozen veg to save food waste.

MUST TRY HARDER Blush

Hi everyone, I do like the principles of the Harcombe diet but find it tricky to keep to - I'm vegetarian and there's not a huge amount of choice, plus when I'm out and about for work it's difficult to take Harcombe-friendly snacks! I don't mind porridge with water though, which I guess is a start.....

None - I agree with you about the website - thought the book was great and expected the website to be full of similarly friendly people, but it wasn't, it was lots of people taking it very seriously indeed and not being very open to newbie questions!

Hi, I'm on day 3 of phase 1 and finding it hard work but I think that's due to carb withdrawal. Yesterday I had a splitting headache, tired and achy but starting to feel better today. Looking forward to being able to eat dairy and fruit in phase 2. I can't face porridge with water but I think (i hope!) it's allowed with skimmed milk in phase 2. Roll on Saturday!
