I'm trying low GI as an attempt to prevent my acne as well as lose weight

I'm finding it difficult to get good information on the GI values of things and what I should avoid so have a few questions:
Can I drink squash?
Can I put a bit of sugar on porridge? (I notice All Bran which is very low GI has sugar as a second ingredient)
What about things like bolognese?

I eat low carb for health and because I needed to lose weight (which I did, 53 lbs!) So, to answer your questions - yes, sugar is 100% carb so, no, you shouldn't have any sugar on your porridge or eat All Bran either (which, as you noticed is loaded with sugar!) Cutting carbs isn't a calorie controlled diet, but you do have to reduce the carbs to a very low level so no sugar at all and very small amounts of any high carb foods like bread, pasta, potatoes, rice etc. You can however eat as much protein (meat, fish, eggs etc) and all the green veg you want. Lots of packaged foods give the "carbohydrate content" in grams per 100 grams which is essentially a percentage and should help you pick suitable foods. There is lots of info and discussion on this diet in the "Life & Style" section of Mumsnet. From my experience, this is a really good, healthy way to lose weight and keep it off. Good luck!
