Low carb cook books and blogs

Apologies if this has been done before.

DH and I are starting a low carb journey and so far I've been cooking quite simply and using the recipe ideas from here. (BIWI i made the mousaka you posted on the recipe thread - yum!) But ultimately, I'm a cook book junkie and I'd like to get a couple of books to consult too.

Can anyone recommend a good recipe book or low carb blog to follow? Thank you. Smile

the idiot-proof diet cookbook which accompanies the diet book is good, though doesn't have carb counts (if that's your thing) and no pictures

i like karen barnaby's 'low carb gourmet'

i also like this blog www.ibreatheimhungry.com/, though it is american (so american measurements and nutrition values, also some weird products that you can't get here)

also a couple of blogs by low carbing MNers feastwithoutregret.wordpress.com/ and jensfoodandphotos.blogspot.co.uk/ (NB not all recipes are low carb)

there are plenty of others i'm sure i've forgotten but hopefully someone else will chip in. don't go for the BBC good food low carb cookbook - lots of recipes contain sugar, honey, pasta etc!

Willewaggledagger thanks for your reply.

I think I saw the 'low carb gourmet' on amazon before I was overwhelmed by all the books! I will check out the idiot-proof diet book too. We're not into carb counts; it makes it too much like a 'diet' for me, rather than just a better way to eat.

I'll have a look at those blogs too. Thanks.

definitely go for the IPD book - the moussaka biwi posted is i think from there, and there is a butter chicken recipe which is also delicious. they're recipes mostly taken i think from people on the IPD forum, and they're all UK-based which means UK measurements and products which makes things a LOT easier

Try sugarfreechic and yourlighterside. I like I breatheimhungry too. In general I haven't found the cookbooks all that useful, most of I breathes's recipes are on her site. I have low carb Gourmet but I am just not inspired by it and ipd contains a lot of diary but they are better than he recipe books written by nutritionalists and doctors - avoid these like the plague. Sometimes I find myself amazed at what people consider to be good tasting food.

Sorry just had another look at low carb gourmet - I was talking rubbish, it's full of easy tasty recipes that I just haven't looked at it in ages. Blush

The only thing about the Low Carb Gourmet which I don't like is that she uses a lot of artificial sweeteners in her recipes.

I also like Rose Elliot's "The Vegetarian Low-Carb Diet Book". Some lovely veggie recipes in there.

I like the NomNomPaleo blog a lot. There's a recipe app too.
