other than mayonnaise and the usual lemon/olive oil/black pepper what else can I have on salads and with grilled meats etc?

I loathe mustard, not overly keen on blue cheese and most recipes seem to include them - please help!

If it is for on meat, garlic and herb cream cheese (like Boursin or the Lidl equivalent) is very yummy smeared on top of a steak (and I presume would be equally nice on pork or lamb) Smile

oh yes that sounds nice. I can think of some nice rubs to do with oil herbs and spices but it's the dressings for salads and vegetables I'm struggling with. I'm sure I saw one for on here ages ago for chilli and red pepper, jzooshed up in the blender but can't think what else went with it. And what about avocado? love that flavour but is there anyway to thin it out, think olive oil would make it too greasy??

I've got a Robert Carrier recipe for an avocado, Cheshire cheese, roasted blanched almonds, tomato and cucumber (all cubed) and some chopped parsley and spring onions salad which has a very nice dressing of olive oil, white wine vinegar, mashed garlic, a tablespoon of tomato purée and a few drops of Tabasco. Very tasty! Smile

What about balsamic vinegar?

Balsamic vinegar is not very low carb.

Just read in Good Housekeeping a suggestion to use pesto as a dressing stirred into mayonnaise or adding a squeeze of lemon juice and a splash of water for an Italian salad dressing.

Caveat: be careful with the tomato purée as it is quite carby. Last time I realised I didn't have any, so I used a wee bit of thick (homemade) tomato sauce that I had left over and that worked quite well.

I use Turkish or Russian yoghurt for sauce/dressings mostly as there are many things which can be added to it to make it delicious - crushed garlic & black peppar, chives, onions, crushed salad cheese (sorry, I don't live in the UK so don't really know what that is technically called over there - looks like feta but not as strong), curry, horseradish.... or I just bung a load of cottage cheese on the salad or on the side of the dish, either plain or with onion.
