Low-carb bootcamp

I need to start boot camp TODAY - family wedding in 5 weeks

Help

I lost lots of weight with low carbing a few years ago but it's all crept back on. I desperately just need to stop eating. Can't wait for 29th for the next one to start so I started today.

Can you give me one tip to keep me on the straight and narrow. Preferably about breakfast!

It's a biwi classic but so true when lc- failing to plan is planning to fail. If your rushed at breakfast boil eggs now and keep some hard boiled in the fridge for quick brekkie. I'm starting ( again) today too- good luck Grin

I started yesterday after quite a few months off. I had bacon, scrambled eggs and tomatoes for breakfast. I'll probably have the same todaySmile

I've had scrambled eggs for breakfast - 2 of them.

I think my issue usually is that I don't eat enough - maybe need to add some veg or something.

Tuna mayo, pepper and cucumber for lunch

Chilli with roast cauliflower for dinner - where do we stand on kidney beans?

Are you adding fat? I restarted late last week, having lost 3 st on the January bootcamp. I feel great today, and I've been up since 5 when I had a coffee with cream. I just got hungry at 9 so had 3 scrambled eggs with plenty of butter, lo salt and pepper. Also some cherry tomatoes. Should've had spinach too but screaming baby...
For lunch we're taking a picnic to the park so I'm going to have some Greek yoghurt with frozen raspberries before I go.

Hi newrecruit can I keep you company? I couldn't wait for the next bootcamp either, after reading escape the diet trap last week. Started bootcamp yesterday. Been on slimming world since Feb and losing about 2lb a month. Fed up of feeling like shit and not even skinny to compensate. Have over 7st to lose, so feel it should come off faster with the amount of effort!

Had an omelette for breakfast today, courgette, spinach, mushrooms, baby corn and olives, with butter and full fat mayo. Made broccoli and cheddar soup for lunch, drizzled with a little garlic oil.

Thanks for the tip on the peppers pseudo I was going to have red peppers in curry tonight, will swap for green!

Bugger - the bag didn't come with any green, just yellow.

Will feed them to the kids.

I'm trying to keep my fat intake up but I find it difficult to believe iyswim. Chilli really filling, even without the kidney beans.

And I went for a run. A year ago I was doing 10k trail runs but it's all gone pear shaped. A small one this evening but it's a start.

Might stretch to 3 eggs for breakfast tomorrow though Grin

So I'm looking at 21 weeks realistically, or does it come off quicker when low carbing?

The 4 weeks until the wedding is not promising Grin

I restarted last Thursday. As of this morning I'm 4lbs down.
If you follow BIWI bootcamp rules to the letter then you should be able to shift a decent amount in that time.

newrecruit - fat is really important! If you don't believe, you need to do some reading. "Escape The Diet Trap" by Dr John Briffa is really good, and explains the theory behind low carbing as well as why fat is not the villain it's made out to be.

I was completely unprepared today as my meeting ran over by 2 hours and left me unable to get home to make myself some lunch. I ended up eating a bag of pork scratchings and a pack of salami - so that should be my fat intake well and truly up!

I read the Briffa book a few years ago and was really convinced - however I think I need to reread it as it's all a bit hazy.

I really suffer from carb cravings, which is why all the weight crept back on again over the past year - too much living on biscuits and hot cross buns - but I'm determined to change my ways for good this time.

You have my every sympathy! The world isn't really made for low carbing and it's hard to make it a 'normal' way of eating sometimes.

Hi ladies, hope its ok for me to join in early too!

I've been reading the previous boot camp threads and wished I found you lot when I first began this WOE 5 weeks ago!

I started wanting to loose weight in earnest, and started on a low cal diet - talk about miserable!!! Then I came across a link to a ketogenic diet online, and couldn't believe that I could eat all the stuff I love. So made the switch and have lost 12lbs already in 5 weeks Smile

I started at 12st 12, so still have a little bit to go to get to my ideal weight of 10st 5 (or there abouts) - my pre-pregnancy weight. I have a gorgeous 16 month year old, and would like to be fit in order to keep up with him!

This WOE really does work, I have tons of energy (I now run for around an hour a day - I could only manage 5 minutes when I started lol!). I have been very strict too - no sweet stuff or alcohol.

I have had the criticisms from friends about my diet, so I do not talk about it. I keep my happiness at losing the weight to myself and the frustrations (or tell my partner, who is supportive however is still doing low cal eating). So its great that there are loads of you here who do this WOE too!

Sorry for the long post, and here's to more weight lost for all of us! x

On the exercise front, aqua aerobics all the way:

body hidden, floaty feeling, nice music to bounce to, and you can set your own (underwater) pace

Very effective for toning.

Hi Inspired,
Funny you should mention water aerobics as I passed by our local swimming pool yesterday and saw they have classes and was looking at signing up!

I also like the idea of keeping my body hidden at the mo whilst exercising lol, tmi but my flabby bits have become even more, er, flabby and squishy since this health kick. I read somewhere that it's because I'm on the right track and the fat will go soon (at least that's what I understood from it!)

Loulouebelle - have you done any reading about the science behind low carbing? It's worth it, then you can counter any assertions that this way of eating is dangerous.

Hi BIWI,
I have read some articles based on Gary Taubes book, and also how great the diet is for people with heart disease and/or diabetes.

My late mother had type 2 diabetes, which contributed to her having heart disease - she died last year only at 62 because of it.

I wish I knew about this sooner, as I am I know doubt that this WOE may have helped her.

I have tried to explain to my friends the ins and out of this, but it's like they are brainwashed. I don't blame them - the low cal way of thinking has been ingrained in everyone for so long.

I have left it with them that I saw how ill my mother was, and obviously I am trying everything in my power not to get like that. That seemed to have placated them somewhat.

The biggest issue most people have with it is to do with fat and how fat is bad for us - because that's what we have been brainwashed with over the last 30 years or so!

Sorry to hear about your mum. Diabetes is an awful disease and anything that we can do to prevent it can only be a good thing.
