Majorly planning ahead here!! Have set up a savings account for a Florida (& poss other parts of USA holiday).

For the Disney aspect of it, what age is best for kids to be able to manage it but also still 'believe'?

I went aged 13 & 14 and imo was too old.

We would need to go in August & have a 3.5yr age gap between our two dc's, so thinking aged 8yrs & 4.5yrs or 9yrs & 5.5yrs maybe?? Or 10.5yrs & 7yrs???

Any thoughts?

I'd say 5 is perfect - took DS at age 4, 5 and 6 and he believed at 4 and 5. After that, he knew the characters were people dressed up in costume

We took ours at age 4 and 8, DS 8 loved all the parks and went on all rides he was tall enough for but wasn't remotely interested in magic of Disneyland, DD at 4 loved all the Disney Princesses but wasn't able to do a lot of the bigger rides even though she would have as has no fear. Every age gets something out of it but we do plan on going again in 5 years when both children should be tall enough to do any rides they wish.

I wouldn't go in August. You may spend a big portion of your holiday holed up behind boarded up windows as is hurricane season!

We went when DS was 6 and dd 11, was fine for dd but DS couldn't go on everything.

We went end of August, the only Hurricane went past Florida and hit NYC and the Carolina's.
End of August Florida schools are back, so you get long hours with somewhat quieter parks. Good for a rest in the middle of the day.
Do be aware there will be frequent rain storms, very heavy but warm. But waterparks close when there is lightening anywhere around and you should stay out of the water too!

We will have to go in school hols so were thinking 3-4wks in the summer hols, only other option would be 2wks at Easter

We took ours at 6 and 9. Ds6 doesn't seem to remember much.

We took our DC's at 4, then again at 8.

Both trips were fabulous. We are going to go again next year when they will be 14, but will hit Universal and Aquatica etc rather than Disney Land.

August wll be bloody hot and sticky!!!! Easter is much better - cooler and less rain/humidity...

Make sure your 2 weeks at Easter doesn't coincide with USA Spring Break, very busy time of year at parks as we found out.

We took the boys at 5&6 - they still talk about it a year later - going again next easter when they're 7&8. Sadly the smallest will be big enough for most of the scary rides - last time we just watched dh and big boy from the safety of a carousel or similar.

True grittzio but I would still much rather that than the August weather. Hot, wet, humid. Yuck!

We took ours at 4 and 7, then again at 10 and 13! Both ages were great.

We went in August only rain we got was the very last day. Plane home was delayed by a massive storm, but that didn't matter at all.

DDs were 7 and 10 and DD2 was just on the water park hight limit. Do check. Ride limits at Disney are fine, but she couldn't do kraken at sea world or big non Sydney places.

They were pretty much the right ages, younger and they wouldn't remember, older and maybe they'd be more cynical?

DD1 would still absolutely love to go again at 15 and wouldn't give a monkeys at being with her family. DD2(12) would find a reason for a mild teen sulk, but also actually have fun.
