So, talk me through writing a will, please!

As a single parent, I've been thinking it's really important that I write a will just incase anything should happen to me. So the question is, can I just write one and get witnesses to sign it, or do I need to go through a solicitor? What's legally binding? Obviously I'd rather not spend money unnecesarily. Idon't have any big assets like a house or car, but I do have a business and would want the money from the sale of that to go to DS.

Any experience on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

We did ours through our bank OMD. I think if you have a business it might be worth using a solicitor rather than going it alone. Could you offset some of the cost as a business expense? Although TBH I don't think it's that expensive. Hulababy might be able to help - her dh knows about these things IIRC.

ok thanks Saggy, hopefully Hulababy or someone else who works in the field will be able to offer some advice re costs and stuff.

I'll speak to my bank on monday. Did you do yours through one of the high street banks?
