I have changed my name for this as I know some people on here in RL.
DH and I seperated a couple of months ago and we have a mortgage but are planning to sell within the next couple of months (probably looking at a profit of around £35) We have two joint loans, one of which DH took to pay off £7K worth of credit card debt. I have one credit card with £500, however DH has a further 3 credit cards amounting over £12K! Altogether our debt amounts to around £24K.
I know we are jointly liable for the loans, but how do I stand with regards to his credit cards? Someone advised me as he accrued all of this after we were married we are jointly liable for this debt as well. Can this be right, even if it is in his name alone and I'm not even a cardholder on the accounts? Also, what happens to any debt that he may accrue after we are split but before we get divorced? Is there anyway of making sure I can't be liable for anymore?
He has a spending problem and can't help himself. I'm going to see a solicitor after Christmas but just wondered if anyone on here had advice in the meantime.
