family tickets?????? What about lone parents?????

I am so enraged. I wanted to take my children bowling at the weekend so I phoned the bowling centre and asked if they had any specials on. They said they had a family ticket which included two adults and two children. I stated that I was a single parent and wasn't that discriminating me?? They stuttered and said they would look into but until then I would have to pay the going prices (which were ridiculous). Hence to say we forgot the bowling and played cricket free of charge instead. It's not right though and I think its absurd and unfair.

I want to know who decided that a family can only consist of two adults and two children. We have three children and frequently get nobbled this way.

I always challenge them on it "are you implying that we are not a "proper" family?" i say in a snooty voice!!

I also produce a one parent families or gingerbread membership card and often get a discount even where not advertised.
To use the word discrimination is good though - it is absolute discrimination.

same with holidays, you have to pay the single person supplement if youve not got another adult with you and all the discounts aimed at single parents are in termtime so you cant go anyway

It really annoys me. I never envisaged I would be a single parent! Although I am god damn proud of it. I am fed up with being discriminated against and yes Freckle your right - who says a family is 2 x 2?

The whole system stinks.

National Trust/Cadw/English Heritage all do 1 adult+ children type family cards!

I have been out with my friend and her DS and my two and frequently got into places on a family ticket (DD being under 3 still quite often not charged).

Actually was looking into taking out family membership of a local leisure centre and their definition of family was "Husband/wife and partner and any of their children under the age of 16", so anyone with 10 kids would be well sorted!

Move to Leicestershire? Most county-run places there offer a family ticket of 2+2 or, at a reduced rate, for 1+3.

I don't understand why all counties (or leisure centres) don't do this - it's blatant discrimination otherwise.
