Hi ladies.

My ds is 7 months old and I really want to start with finger foods but I am absolutely terrified about choking!
My mums always been hysterical about choking and its rubbed off on me over the years and its a big problem for me.

Being on my own aswel made me more aprehensive about starting finger foods but I have on 3/4 occasions tried.

I cooked broccli, sweet potato, had a banana and those organic carrot puffs you can buy. Each occasion DS gagged and choked terrible and I had a huge meltdown and now it has made me more nervous.

I see all other babies his age chomping on foods with big smiles on their faces and I'm desperate to give that to my son.

Any advice or experiences on finger foods and how i can get past this god awful fear :( I've even sat and watched many many cpr videos to know what to do when choking but still can't bring myself to do it.

thanks in advance

I'm paranoid about choking as well.

Could you do a first aid course? CPR isn't the immediate action for choking (although it can be done if the food can't be dislodged).

The other thing to remember is that the gag reflex in babies is so strong to prevent them choking. So although the gagging looks scary, it's actually his body's way of preventing him choking. I think all you can do is keep trying, he has to eat solids at some point Grin
