Hi

DS is four and I want to start taking him to the Barbers as I don't cut his hair very well.

His hair is soft as his mixed heritage, but he always cries and wings every time I try to do his hair.

How do I prepare my DS to be cooperative with cutting his hair, especially at the barbers and what were your experiences cutting your kids hair?

Thanks.

My DS can be a little monster but he sat in the chair as good as gold! So you never know.

I would take some sweets maybe, a book or magazine.

He liked seeing himself in the mirror and all his hair flying off.

I have a mobile hairdresser who comes round to the house. DS doesn't get all wound up by lots of noise/ unfamiliar environment and is perfectly calm. If he gets fidgety I can distract him with a toy, the TV or something. Works well for me. I have my hair coloured and cut so she does DS's hair while waiting for my colour to develop.

Hi

Thanks

DS is not bothered about the environment/noise etc. He thinks the clippers are going to hurt him. Though I have never distracted him. I'll see if that works.

I could bring my phone for him to play games. Grin

If the clippers are an issue can he just have a longer cut. Done with scissors?

I like little boys with slightly longer hair. It's just a personal preference I know, but they've got a lifetime ahead of being mannish.

That said, the first time I took my little boy to have his hair cut, he sat on my lap whilst it was done. I felt silly but he didn't seem to mind.

When my DCs were little the hairdresser would have a tube of smarties & explain at the start that she'd gave them out to children who sat still at the end. They only used to get one smartie but it worked.

RESULT!

Came back from the barbers just across from my road.

DS was as good as gold. He did have my phone to play with incase he got fidgety and he was on my lap.

He did not mind the clippers one bit.

So pleased! Phew!
