Lone parents

Shit birthday.

It's my birthday today and it's been shit. The kids have been gripey, my mum took me out for lunch but wasn't feeling very well so we didn't stay out long, I tried to organise going out tonight but nobody, literally nobody, was free. My brother said he would pop over this evening for a cuppa, he was due to come at 7 and he's still not here. I told the kids they could stay up and see him so now they're getting tired and grumpy again. I just want to go to bed and forget the day exists.

Excuse the wallowing.

That does sound pretty shit. Have you texted your brother to find out where he is?

Can you go out another night to celebrate your birthday? It doesn't have to be today.

Happy birthday anyway :)

Happy Birthday Thanks Cake Wine

I had a similar problem on my birthday, DP lives 100 miles away and didn't book time off for my birthday, dd is only 3 so doesn't understand but got upset when she didn't have a card or present to give to me (usually my mum sorts it out but for some reason thought DP was despite the fact they have a mutual understanding that mum sorts dd out with a little card and present to give to me) so I had a day of no presents and no cards apart from the one me and dd made together so she had one to give to me I've never felt more pathetic

I've always said that lone parenting is hardest when there's no one to share the good times with made all the more frustrating when I finally do now actually have a DP who just didn't make the effort

Cheers! Wine

I try so hard not to let these occasions bother me but I can't help it. My brother has gone now and the kids are asleep so it's just me sat on my own like every other fucking night of year, made worse by the fact I know that most of my friends are out enjoying themselves. I know I sound pathetic.

Sorry mogwai that must have been hard. Hope the next birthdays are better for both of us.

They're probably not all having fun. They're probably picking their toenails, farting, eating crap food, watching rubbish on the telly and driving each other mad.

Can you pour yourself a nice glass of wine, watch a favourite film and order a pizza or a curry? Probably a boy late for food, but you could do the other things?

Happy birthday. I'm sorry it wasn't a good one but I hope your year picks up from now!

Well they all said they had plans so if they are doing that then it's even worse because they've lied to avoid going out with me..!!

Wine is open, ferrero rochers are also in attendance.

Yes am a shade under 40 today.

Has been almost as shite as the one I had a late miscarriage on a few years back.

Would settle for a glass of fizzy and a candle in a cupcake tbh but, if you really want to push the boat out we could do doughballs and a la reine at PExp.... :)

In yesteryear it would've been me and my mates at armin only or sensation white. How the mighty have fallen.
