it can be done, but you'll learn the value of minimalist living!

i would NOT rely on the council rehousing you once you are there, b/c most have hella wait lists, an accute shortage of homes and if you're already housed you're not a priority.

I woudl also think that maybe because you actually put yourself in that situation i.e taking a 1 bed when you had a 2 bed that they would not rehouse you for that reason. IYKWIM?

the council wont let you exchange inmto a smaller property, as you will be making yourself overcrowded. sorry.

I am not sure about the rules & i think the differ a bit from council to council, we are just going down the coucil route & are going to be homeless in 8 weeks i am totally scared but have no choice, we are in rented at the moment but the landlord is moving back in when our contrat runs out in 8 weeks, anyone know any of the rules??

Blimey is scary isnt it? its really playing on my mind i have been extremly down,stressed & not sleeping at night worrying, its either that or move to another rented house which i now refuse to do because i am fed up of moving all the time i need stability for my kids now.

If i were you in your situation i would phone the council 7 ask them what the rules are , you dont have to tell them who you are just ask them?

happymum - get a copy of the council's allocations policy whioch will tell you what points you will get for being overcrwoded. In most areas with a shortage of housing (i.e. pretty much anywhere half decent) points just for overcrowding are not going to get you a move soon but your housing officer should be able to advise of the local situation. Don't make you decision based on being able to get a move on.

our council would say that. ours doesn't do points anymore, either, but edinburgh is so ungodly expensive they've got serious problems w/homelessness.

'gold' star priority is a person who has become disabled and can no longer live in his/her accommodation. silver is a homeless person or a person who has had to flee his/her home - domestic violence, racial abuse first priority, then folks whose landlord doesn't renew their tenancy agreement.

everyone else is pretty much fucked.

Our council would not let you move into a smaller property. Especially with 2 children of different sexes.
