Zurich - where to live

hello, have posted before in similar vein but thinking of moving to Zurich in March and no idea where to start looking for flats, would be most grateful for advice. Also dh's job is in zug - would it make more sense to live there or zurich? (have lived in london for 15 years but brought up surrounded by green fields - i love cities but cows hold no fear for me). Thanks a lot.

Youa re really looking at the towns/villages of the Zimmerberg area (on the West side of Zurich lake) or around Zug itself. Popular areas for expats are Thalwil, Horgen, Adliswil, Waedenwil/Au, mainly for facilities such as English speaking doctors, social groups, swimming pool/gym and access to international schools, and the two cities but there are villages such as Hirzel which command great lake views and are more rural with meadows etc but still within 15-20 minutes or so of either Zug or Zurich. The downside is that you may feel more isolated if you don't speak Swiss German or use local schools. You really don't have to live in Zurich or Zug themselves though. tbh good property is like gold dust so you may be limited by availability at the time. Have you thought about joining groups.yahoo.com/group/Families-in-Zurich/ or groups.yahoo.com/group/Zimmerberg-Sihltal-Zurich/ as you may find a property being leased on by word of mouth there. Good luck .

Likewise Immo or even Xpat Xchange. Most local removals occur around October 1st and April 1st (traditional lease break dates) so in between you are mainly looking for someone being shipped out or buying who need to pass their current lease on.
