How's your wee one, berolina?

Hope your headache lifts, admylin.

Took dd to her Schularztuntersuchung yesterday. The doctor is great, she did the boys too years ago.
Dd is at least 2 inches (er, 5,08cm) taller today as she passed with flying colours. I was so proud

Well done (grown) MiniFink!

ds1 is back at kiga this week and fine, his old self. ds2 is stillsuffering a bit from the cold, but hasn't been feverish for nearly a week now. Think this one is over.

We've had the d & v bug here for 2 weeks, school home and kiga. Ds2 threw up in school and said the head came at him with disinfectant sprays in both hands.

I was so glad she told me the Gesundheitsamt had confirmed it wasn't the Norovirus otherwise I'd have had to get a stool sample from him

But it's still a rotten bug.

Thanks, just got back up and still got a headache but I need to look awake to get the dc from school so I'm trying with strong coffee!

We've just booked flights to the US for our summer hols and payed well over 3000 euro for all 4 of us. Now a friend just said Air Berlin has flights to New York for 150 Euro has anyone seen that? Would be typical if it's true, dh never comes back with a bargain.

Guten Abend Cali.
Am of you in Cali-land as we have the most evil foul chilling fog here and have had a fire going since 11 this morning - just as much to lift the spirits as warm the house.
They call this part "the Tuscany of Germany"

Was wondering where you all buy your dc's shoes in Germany especially for older dc? I always find nice shoes and trainers when I'm in the UK and usually stock up when I'm there but here I find the styles really strange, even with trainers for ds - of course I can find a nice pair of Addidas for 85 euro but somehow at his growth rate I find it abit much. Any good online tips or shops?
You would think it would be easy enough to find some - I'm in the Hauptstadt!

Guten Abend!

admylin - There is a lovely little independent children's shoe shop called Tausendfüßler in Friedenau - next door but one to the Storytime English bookshop. They have quite a wide range and can order stuff in.

Abend. German Corner, eh? Sounds a bit like the naughty step.

Without a doubt, shoes are my biggest expense for the dcs here - I spend more on a pair for dd (5) than I do on myself. Naturino anyone?

We went in to Galeria Kaufhof one day - the biggest one in Germany so was sure we would find some and there wasn't a single pair of shoes in size 32 under 85 euro - couldn't believe it, and most were over 100. They weren't even very nice and I was relieved when the dc didn't like any of them!

In Tuebingen I had a lovely little Italian children's shoe shop with primigi and others at half that price. I'll keep looking and have to find out how to get to friedenau and check that one out, sounds like what I'm looking for.

ooh we have IT, our own all things remotely German thread

BTN, your name about sums it up! I dropped dd off at someplace this morning and came back and went back to bed! Oh the shame, I'm not even sick, just dead tired. Is it the Kältesturz I wonder. Feels VERY cold, doesn't it?

Can't say I've noticed what style shoes boys wear admylin. Sportshoes, winter boots etc I tend to get at Karstadt Sport and I've always been happy with price/service/styles there. Mind you it's just round the corner too which is the MAIN reason I go there I suppose. Are you looking for sportshoes then? Hope your head-ache has cleared up.

Yes I was back in bed this morning, it must be the weather, it's so cold agian.

Yes I need sport shoes for ds to wear every day sort of thing for when it's abit warmer as he otherwise only has his big winter boots - I've never tried Karstadt sport, might try to get him over there. He hates shopping and it is realyl hard to talk him into coming with me - usualyl with bribes!

that's very funny about the shoes, because I always stock up on shoes when I'm in Germany.

Oooh, this is nice. Our very own clique And in a corner too.

Hobnob anyone?

Good idea, I always felt guilty about hijacking other threads.

As to the shoe thing, I am always a bit lost here too. If I can I wait till I go home as my cousin works in a childrens shoe shop. Ironically they stock the best of continental footwear so we often end up with Elefanten or Ricosta. They are a bit dearer but she gives me a discount, and at least this way they fit properly. I have not found a shop that can fit the shoes as well as she does.

They have a great sale twice a year and she has often got me great shoes for a fiver.

BTN
I am in NRW too.

Hello everyone.I am in Gutersloh. BTN-seem to be in Herford a fair bit at the mo -Springolinos 2 weeks ago and H2O on Thurs.

I don't seem to have much luck with shoes either, but will have to get some soon for ds as not going back to UK till summer.

However was blown away by how easy it was to get contact lenses! Have been managing to get from UK till recently (at great inconvenience), terrified of braving a German opticians. Walked in, showed receptionist old box-she handed me 2 new boxes of disposable lenses, I paid and left! No mandatory check up/sight test or anything. Amazed!

Report
Kindersurpise · 16/02/2008 22:07

I used to have lenses but gave them up when DD was little. Have been wanting to try them again for a while.

I wondered about getting the daily disposable ones, then I could use them occasionally if I felt like it.

Anyone know the cheapest way to post larger items to UK? My DB and his wife are having a baby and I would love to send them half of my cellar. We still have tons of baby stuff and we are not intending driving over this year.

Do you think it would be worth posting?
