Does anyone know off the top of their head if our imminent daughter will be eligible for the CTF?

My husband is a British citizen by birth and I am a British citizen by descent (mother born there). Baby will be born in Shanghai in January next year and will be registered at birth with the consulate as a British citizen.

Many thanks!

If I remember correctly, when I looked into it, they have to be resident in the UK when the initial payment is made to be eligible. At the time dd was born, I knew that we would be moving out of the uk eventually so I enquired and they said that it didn't matter if we left the uk after the payment was made, that it woudl still be hers to keep, but that she wouldn't get the next installment if we were out of the country at the time.

SofiaAmes and Califrau are right. My H & I are both British citizens (born & bred) but because DS was born overseas, he's not entitled to anything.

We were living abroad when the CTF thing kicked in, so dd did not get anything. But when we returned to live in the UK a year or so later she got it then - applying for Child Benefit triggers it I believe.

Cheers Halster. Will have to bear it in mind if we ever move back!

NOOOO....
sorry guys, but both my sons have received it and were born in Malta.. BUT.
this could be to do with the fact that DH still opts to pay UK national insurance etc, as to why I still get the family allowance (I think)
not being very helpful here am I, jut wanted to throw a spanner in by saying that I've had it, both born abroad, and it's all above board IYKWIM

We got CB but dd was born pre CTF iirc (2001) so can't comment . The CB depends on where you are - there may be a reciprocal agreement to pay you on local system instead, or not - and if you are still a UK tax/NI payer although it isn't actually related to NI contributions. How you register your baby isn't relevant except for passport purposes.
