Southern Spain - Stupid question from a frist timer

Hi Guys

I need a ask a really stupid question.

We are moving to spain (My parents already live there)

I'm due sometime in March. Which allows for my dates and the dates from the hospital.

Although I am a first timer I am used to kids in the UK. I have 7 god children.

Heres my very stupid question what do I dress my baby in. Obviuosly in england we would still be looking at winter clothes and layers. But in Spain the weather can be very warm and getting warmer every day.

We wold be in summer clothes but what do a dress a kid in?

Does that make sense?

Help ....

i found when dd (now 17mths) was born here in may, she was a very warm baby anyway.

during summer months in n.ireland, i kept her in short sleeved and short legged all in ones, vests and anything cotton or lightweight.

a few pairs of socks, and a light weight cardigan should allow for those cooler times.

spain should have a good range of clothes anyway! if still too warm, a nappy is enough.

DD was born in July in Italy and most of the time was just in a nappy with a thin cotton top. The midwives here advise one layer more than you're wearing, so if you're in shorts and tshirt dress baby in the same, plus perhaps either a light cotton cardi for those cooler moments or a light vest underneath.

Cheers guys

I supposed what I am trying to say, is have you ever been on holiday somewhere hot where you and any other english people where wearing t shirts and shorts and all the locals where in jumps, coat and winter wollies (as my mum would say)

Do I dress dear child as an english baby on holiday or as a spainish baby? Is there infact a difference? I don't know may be I am being totaly think!

Thanks Again

I live in Madrid but the weather in Spain does get cold from November on..do have warm clothes for your babe..or buy them here! They OVER dress kids here in 2 ways..very formal and also too many layers..you will be told to put more clothes on your baby!

I live in Seville and March (easter) can be really quite hot (late 20's early 30's) but it's also very common to rain a lot and through April. as they say Abril aguas mil. After april it starts to heat up and in Seville can easily be 40 by July.

there's an H and M in Seville and 2 mothercares ands if you're near Malaga there's Dunnes stores and all sorts, bring a selection and then buy what else you need here.

Yes, they overdress here too. I's almost as if they look at the calendar and not the weather - it was still very hot in late September yet the first puffa jackets had already made their appearance .

Use your common sense when dressing your baby. It is important not to overheat so keep an eye out for red faces and discomfort. The Italians really swaddle their children (draughts are a major cause of deadly diseases so it seems) but the result of that IMO is that they're actually more prone to getting colds and the like and as adults they become hypochodriacs and get ill from the slightest puff of wind.

Great thanks guys

I thought I would just play it by ear. But you read so many of these books that say you must xxxx.

Not like a suggestion but if you fail to do xxx you should be instantly lock up for child abuse.

I've stoped reading anything on preganancy as I think it is safer to use common sence
