There seems to be a lot of conflicting info on the net...

Some seem to state you get cash back, some that you don't, some for only the current tax year, some for up to 6 years back.. the mind boggles

Anybody actually done it?

tia

Oh tell me more please....I am in same situation just waiting for state pension forecast then want to contribute class 2 ( ??) to keep pension but seeing as have paid full NI for last 20 yrs but yet cannot be registered with doc in the UK I would like my percentage back ..BUt I have my doubts that it can be done. Had CHB for 1 year but that is apparently more linked to tax rather than NI . I get nowhere with the UK info lines / web and do not know where to look.

Hi Rosa I'm looking into this because dh (who's a kiwi) was adamant that he could claim all of his NI back when we migrate to Australia. Never quite believed it

There are lots of agencies who are 'willing to help' but no idea what their cut is.

As far as I understand what I've read so far one can opt out of NI for the current tax year. No idea how to do it back dated yet though. As for NI paid in so far I think it can be transferred but as I said... not quite sure myself hence asking on here. Any money back would be a bonus! The more the better of course

Here's a few links I've found but not quite read yet

rapidrefunds

how to get confused

according to them you get no cash but it goes into retirement fund

My situation is a bit different as I am still within Europe.
I know you get all your tax back for sure however if you have paid NI I was sure that you then get a proportion of a British pension at retirement age... Just to confuse matters but I am talking a good few years ago. My Dad who worked in OZ for 2 years got zero from the Oz government and he paid in wilst working there.

MrsBigD have you tried asking on www.britishexpats.com - someone is sure to know on there? Otherwise do a search on there, I bet the question has been asked before!
