just curious as to where it was that you lived in NZ? have been researching family history and learnt that my french great grandfather not only served with Aussie army ww1 but he moved to NZ!!

There is a letter in his file with an address in Lower Hutt - he wanted his aussie medals and was enlisting in the NZ army during WW2!!

I'm not Ghosty, but we did spend a night in Lower Hutt this year Eidsvold, just on the outskirts of Wellington.

iirc Lower Hutt is where lots of the Lord of the Rings was filmed

oh thanks for that info - will search some more when I get time.

I am now trying to find out how I can firstly see if he definitely did enlist and if so see if I can get hold of his military records - have read through his aussie ones - very interesting.

my brother was born in Lower HUTt (random fact)

My father has done some tracing recently of his (NZ) father's involvement in WW1; mostly tracing what his regiment did in Belgium/France. he's probably got some good ideas of where to go for more info if you'd like me to ask him?

MRs JC - that would be fab thanks. I know he was living in Lower Hutt in 1940 - address on letter in file but wanted to know how to go about finding out if he in fact listed in NZ army in ww2. From the file I think he tried BUT the man had been gassed severely in WW1 - can't see he would be up to going again!!

on the 'archives' place there is a phone contact for the archivist

you can get NZ Army records here but don't know if they'd tell you for definite if he enlisted IYSWIM
