How to get onto Singapore Expat Wives without a 'real' FB account

For various reasons I don't have an active 'real' Facebook account, only a 'dummy' one I use to sign up for promotions, coupons etc. My family and I are due to move to Singapore at the end of September and the Singapore Expat Wives FB site has been mentioned time and time again as the best resource. However, I've tried to join with my 'dummy' account and have not received any kind of reply. Is there anyone on this thread I could reach out to who could admit me?

I'm not at all against sharing info with the group but am not sure how to get admitted so that I can do so as it seems that my request was just declined with no message.

Thanks in advance for any insights or help with this!

Hi

Have you tried checking your 'other' folder in your mailbox on Facebook? I couldn't see this on my mobile or iPad so had to log in on a non mobile device.
They send a verification email to check you're a real person/live in/are moving to Singapore.
HTH?

Hello Honoroaky, thanks for your note. I have been checking the other folder but have not received anything. I think they are simply reclining because I have basically a blank profile so I'm not able to explain. I've also reached out to one of the admins to explain but to no avail either...

I've never been part of the expat wives group on FB so can't comment on that sorry. I would recommend joining the British Association though, it doesn't cost too much and they organise a lot of activities.

If you have questions that aren't covered by a MN advanced search just ask here, there are quite a few of us MNers in Singapore and you may well get the info you need.

Thanks Cerisier, I will definitely look into joining the British Association (if they let me in ;) - my husband just got his British citizenship this year as we've been in the UK 7yrs. Time flies when you're having fun as they say. I'm sure our posting in Singapore will go by even faster as we're only now signed up for 2 years.

The biggest thing I'm interested in right now are moving company recommendations as well as housing so will take your advice and start another thread.

Thanks again.

We used Crown to relocate us from the UK. It all went without a hitch. Another good forum for info is singaporeexpats.com, I used them a bit when we were new to Singapore.

We use Crown every time, both internationally and locally. Never ever had a problem, not a single thing lost or broken.

It can take a long time to get on, apparently the admins are busy. But I imagine a blank profile makes you look like a potential spammer/stalker.

I'm not sure if there's a way around it. Although someone you're FB friends with adding them them might work. But if you don't have any FB friends, that's not going to be possible either.

Think they do get bombarded with spam requests. Try deleting your request and re doing it and then emailing one of the admin.

Hey everyone - success at last after emailing a few of the admins. As everyone said, there's a ton of info there so very happy I persevered. Thanks!

It's a secret group on fb and you have to be added by a friend but there are lots of other expat groups which are as good. SEW got a bit mean a couple of months ago.
