Sending something very precious back to Melbourne

Any suggestions for sending back a very precious item (my grandmother's wedding garter) to melbourne from London? I'm the custodian of the garter as I was the first grandchild to get married, but I have to give to one of my cousins for her wedding. When this has previously happened, someone has delivered it in person. No australian visitors this year before the wedding.

I've spoken to Royal Mail about sending it tracked, and it's reasonably priced. But has anyone used this before? I've been sending parcels back to Australia for almost 12 years the normal Royal Mail service and tp we have lost a couple of things, just wondering what anyone else's has done in a similar situation?

I've had many a recorded delivery Royal Mail item left on my doorstep. Even when I'm in.

I would use FedEx. They only use their own drivers and they definitely get a signature.

Second FedEx. Wouldn't trust Royal Mail or Aus Post not to lose it!

Can you appeal to your wider network of friends and acquaintances to see if there's anyone travelling back? Surely you or your cousin know someone who knows someone who is going back soon.

Ah, thank-you...fed ex it may have to be....

No, no visitors either way before the wedding in August. Wasn't a long lead up to the wedding, only found out a few weeks ago. It's how it has been transported in the past. I'll be there next easter though to pick it up!
