Aldi in France used to sell some fantastic plain chocolate covered caramels, that were always on the chocolate shelf. They were about 3cm long, and 1 cm wide, and had a dark brown and gold/yellow wrapper. They were in bags of about 250g. The bag had a clear middle and the top was bright red.

Then they disappeared. They were called something like Schokotoffees - a German word? The caramel was lovely, just a little bit softer than the long yellow Quality Street ones, and not the horrid artificial-tasting Carambar ones that the French seem to think is a caramel. The chocolate was thick and really good with the slightly bitter flavour going really well with the caramel - even dh scoffed them and he hates toffees.

They came back briefly just before Christmas in 2011, in the bins by the tills, but have now vanished.

I'm really pining. Do Aldi in the UK sell them? I'm in the UK next week, weather permitting. Or does anyone know what the correct German name for them from my description?

I think aldis world wide have recently changed the chocolates they sell. My dd used to love strawberry yogurt sticks, they have gone now too. Schoko toffees are not just an aldi product, not sure where you would get them now.

I have just rooted in the cupboards and found some my mum bought from Edeka. They are called choco toffees and the are made by Sula - the a has a apostrophe thing over it. They've got GB 'instructions' on them so they might be for sale in GB. Good luck!
