Has anyone had whiplash whilst having inflammatory arthritis? How have you got on with it? When it happened nearly 4 months ago now I got pain straight away and ended up on codeine after a few days then it seemed to calm down. However now it feels like its seizing up more now and I'm getting bad headaches? Now I don't know if this part of my condition or from the accident? Gutted though cos it's so painful!

I can't help as I haven't experienced whiplash but didn't want you to go without a reply. I have an imflammatory arthritis and have read that whiplash is so much worse and can last longer for people like us. We can also fracture more easily so make sure you have it checked out xx

I think my scenario is the other way round - I had whiplash about 15 years ago in an accident in a car with no headrest and my head snapped right back onto my neck/shoulders.
The pain was unbearable at the time, over the next twelve hours my head/neck/shoulders seized up and I seem to remember being bed bound for about two days and off work for about two weeks.

Roll onto now and I have osteo-arthritis in my neck which the doctor says would have been aggravated/triggered by the accident, I take ibuprofen for it now.

Thanks for the replies, mandm I'm so annoyed to be honest. I was just feeling like I was getting things under control and this happens. The other driver was a complete idiot and refuses to believe any damage could have been done as it was only a shunt?!.....which happened to result in 2.5k of damage to both cars. I don't know what to do, not supposed to be seeing my consultant again til January but think I might need to see him earlier :(
Gemma that sounds horrible what happened to you! I honestly don't think mine was that bad but it seems to have gradually got worse. I think it's even more frustrating when this could have been avoided and we're left with the aftermath. I'm on strong anti inflammatries for my arthritis anyway so can't take ibuprofen so just paracetamol and resorting to codeine when it's bad.

Sorry for your pains :( I have inflammatory arthritis and frequently get migraines without having had whiplash so I can't imagine what it must feel like ! Codeine and anti inflammatories are life savers ! Just wanted to share my sympathy !!
