How bad is needing a platelet transfusion?

My dad got a phone call from the hospital this afternoon, they wanted him back urgently, straight away for a platelet transfusion.

He's having regular chemo ATM for non Hodgkin's lymphoma. He's got a rare and aggressive, non curable type. He's also just been told that his health isn't well enough for the stem cell transplant that had previously been mentioned as a possibility. Dr told him to wait and see what new treatments/drugs are developed in the next year!

hi no advice sorry...but will be interested in this post re my bro in law. He did have stem cell transplant, it saved his life but left him so so weak and open to every illness. Just this week been diagnosed with skin cancer aswell due to his treatment!
He had/has the transfusions, from what I understand you are only supposed to have so many?? He is over this amount, but went to see his guy at UCL London yest and he has to go back on them as so poorly. They really do help boost him. The last time he had one was early summer when he was in hosp with terrible chest infection.
Where is your dad seen? Sorry re his prognosis, just maybe the transplants may boost his health enough for stem cell??? My bro does feel better almost straight after they are done if that helps.

Sorry for long post but was on laptop googling all things bout platelet transfusions when saw this!
Stay strong....easy to say
