How many people on MN know what mnd is and what It involves?

My Mum Yes it and so many people, including doctors look at me as if I have 2 heads. It may Not be as prevalent as cancer, but it's just as devastating.

I don't wants sympathy, I just wants to raise awareness.

How many people do you know who have It?

My father's best friend had it so I grew up knowing what MND is. Doctors really should have a fairly good understanding.

DF is heavily involved with MNDA and they do a lot of fund and awareness raising - have you tried your local branch for activities and times of events you can help support?

I have known one friend with it , and quite a few patients (am a nurse).
Am surprised hat someone in medical profession hasn't heard of it.
I know in Canada it's known by a different name...Louis something ...after a famous sportsman who had it.

I would imagine most people have heard of it, many will know that Stephen Hawking has it, however few will have a great understanding of it.

My dad died after battling it for 2 years, in 2006....so I am afraid I know about it all too well. Stats are , I believe that at any one time approx. 6000 people in UK have it and in our county (West Sussex) there were 400 in 2006. I have been involved with MDNA association and I know that fundraising/awareness is not as big as say cancer because although lots of people are diagnosed with it, prognoses can be short and therefore a small proportion have it at any one time, compared with say cancers if you see what I mean. It is very, very devastating and whilst I appreciate you arent after sympathy, I do offer mine and if you need any firsthand info, do get in touch (however if you PM me you will have to tell me how to find it as never done that before :)
