Working pattern being changed without any discussion after maternity leave

Help! Just got back from hols (great timing :-() from a letter from my employer saying my working days will change upon my return in December.

I've worked Mon-Wed for five years part time and have established childcare. I'm already into additional maternity leave.

To make it worse, I know another member of staff has been moved to the beginning of the week but wants to work the end if the week (ie the hours I'm suddenly being given).

I wasn't sure once you have an established working pattern if it could be changed with no consultation?

Hoping someone can help!

Bumping for you. Having been on MLs myself, my understanding is the same a yours but, hopefully, an employment lawyer will see and respond.

Are your hours in your contract? If so I don't think they can easily be changed especially without any discussion.
I'm not a lawyer but in my work once your hours are agreed they become contractual and can not be unilaterally changed.

If worked for 5 years they are your contracted hours.

Sorry for not responding. Just got back from hols and not noticed replies Blush.

I'm a teacher so I have a funny contract apparently. Bottom line is, my hours can be changed. However, if there is scope in the work force (which there is) for someone else to work those hours, then need shoukd come over want.

That said, my job share informed said boss five weeks ago she can do the hours and I still haven't had a reply. Anyone think I need a new job?!
