I had not paid the outstanding amount of £27.78 for my council tax, I was set a bill and a reminder but forgot about it and was meanIng to pay it!

I have now been summons to court and now have to pay £27.78 and summons costs of £65 so total of £92.78.

So I called them to ask that if I pay the outstanding amount before it gets to court will I still have to pay summons fee of £65 an they said yes.

I think it's crazy, I know I was in the wrong for not paying it, but I had intended to. I just can't understand why I have to pay the summons fee if it doesn't even make it to court??

The council have had to pay a court fee and have incurred other costs in starting proceedings against you. They don't get that money back even if it doesn't make it to court so you have to reimburse them.

They had no idea you 'intended' to pay it - it's a bummer but you'll have to cough up
