Parental Responsibilty

My child has just started pre-school & it was when filling out all the appropriate forms that I got worried...

long story short, had a fling (I was single) dumped said fling found out I was preggers (no need for a lecture I wasnt stupid & used contraception) anyway obviously continued with the pregnancy hence this child..

told fling said he could choose to be involved or not (but had to stand by that decision) he said he wanted nothing more than for us to have this child (possibly thinking we would get back together even tho I made it clearer than clear this would never happen)... he didnt turn up for scans (that he wanted to come for), didnt turn up till child was 5 weeks old to register birth so anyway he has full parental responsibilty...

He has choosen not to be involved in childs life (although he says differently) he has not be in contact for over 2 years apart from birthday/christmas cards token gift etc..

I am back together with the father of my older children & he has formed a incredible relationship with my little one & I felt so sorry for him that he was sat next to me filling out these forms & other than being a contact had no place for him..

Is there a way my partner could also have parental responsibilty or would he have to adopt the child.. I do not believe that the Father would allow him to adopt the child

Many thanks

ps I would love nothing more than to have the Father involved in his childs life (because I believe this is best for the child) but sadly I do not believe this will ever happen).... Please be gentle with me this is my first ever post but any advice will be greatly appreciated

You will have to marry your DP, and get permission from your dc's father. If he refuses, it is possible to get a court order. Have a look here.
