Can anyone help with a question about written warnings and handing in notice at work??

Hi

I just wondered if anyone knows whether an employer can issue a written warning to an employee once they have handed in their notice period?

A friend has reason to believe she will be given a written warning next week at work (for absence) but wonders if she hands her notice in before this is given to her, will it still count or have any effect on her record or future job reference etc?

The company she is working for have been totally unreasonable with her and she's just about had enough!!

I am guessing that a company can issue warning, e.g. for disciplinary matter...whether they would after an employee has given notice is another matter....I guess it depends on what the warning is for. A company might want to issue a written warning to protect themselves in certain circumstances.

Yes it would be possible. If I were your friend I wouldn't worry about the warning but I would ensure I worked my notice and was polite as this is what they remember when they get a reference request!
