Tenants rights question

Hello

My DH, DS and I are in rented accommodation (6 month AST) after selling our place and while we wait to exchange and do up a new house.

The flat isn't cheap, and there's been a few things that have needed sorting. To be fair, the estate agent isn't bad and i've met the landlord and he seems okay, if a little cheap.

When we moved in the freezer compartment in the fridge was bust. For the past month we've asked it to be fixed - or the fridge to be replaced. it's now dripping water onto the top shelf. Other stuff has been dealt with, the landlord still hasn't 'decided' what he is going to do with this.

Four weeks later, I'm still asking and now I'm pissed off.

I want to buy a cheap fridge online and take it off next month's rent.

What are my rights - anyone know? or what is the best way to deal with this?

Thanks legal brains!

You can't withhold rent - legaly it puts you in a weak position. Send a letter preferably recorded asking them to resolve it within a fixed period of time. Alternatively offer to buy one which you can take with you.
