Car not fit for purpose WWYD?

bought a car last October. We needed a bigger car for family use(I have a small one for work but 5 people+pram isn't very comfortable!)

We part -ex dh car + some cash at a reputable dealer. the car was serviced & MOTed before buying it but it has been back 8 times now with little problems , so far we haven't paid but if this carries on we will be out of warranty.

So consumer direct says to get them to fix it but while they do we are getting more problems. They also suggested replace/refund but that's not going to be easy.

So WWYD?

The warranty is irrelevant. You have statutory rights. The presence of a warranty does not affect your rights.

If the car is not of satisfactory quality given its age and mileage you have the right to reject it and get your money back. You may have lost that right due to the amount of time that has gone by (allowing the dealer to claim that you have accepted the car) but you certainly still have the right to a refund less a deduction for the use you have had from the car.

An report from an independent engineer will help you if the dealer is awkward. If the report reveals an underlying problem leading to all these faults you could tell the dealer you are taking the car elsewhere to get it fixed and you expect them to foot the bill.

Thanks. It seems to be lots of little problems BUT most happened within 6 months of it's full service & MOT where they would have been picked up. We've done less than 3k since we bought it
