How do I complain about being mis-sold a new car?

The short version of the story is that I bought a car believing it to be a brand new car but have recently discovered it to be a car that was 9 months old, onto which they put a new numberplate. The dealer claims they told me this; I think they most definitely did not.

Who can help me with this? Is there a body like Ofcom that can deal with my complaint?

Trading Standards ? I think a "new" car can refer to a previously unregistered vehicle. Do you have any printouts or ad to support your idea ? You may also be able to go through your cc company if you paid a deposit with one.

was there a model change since it was made & you thought you were buying a later version? if not I don't think there's much you can do - if delivery mileage only, & previously unregistered, it is technically a new car...

but as well as Trading Standards you could also try \link{http://www.whichlegalservice.co.uk/\Which Legal Service} - you have to pay to join but they're red hot at this kind of thing

Thanks ladies - will look into these options. Yes, there was a model change which affects resale value etc, although I'm still not 100% sure I have a case anyway!! At least now I have sone ideas for where to seek further help and advice. Thanks again.

RMI (retail motor industry federation) may help. I'm in that trade too, pm me if you want some advice?
So when you bought it how many miles did it have on? Was it registered to any previous keeper? If it's unregistered it's new. If it was an ex-demonstrator it would have had some mileage on it.
(By the way, have a look on Google Earth at the Nissan plant in Sunderland. Have a guess at how old some of the cars are there! And they are still sold as new!!)
