Poor child will have everything as a hand me down and I've had a little windfall, so what would you buy for the child that has everything of it's older siblings ?

I bought a new cot for DS and lots of new clothes but he was my first boy after 2 girls.

I also bought one of the leapfrog learn and groove activity stations (brand new £70) that I would never have forked out on for the girls.

Treat yourself to a new sling or pushchair?!

i bought a lovely changing bag for me when i had ds2 (third baby) as i needed a big one with 3 of 4 and under and i felt after 4 years of using whatever bag was lurking around i deserved a good one.

we also bought him a nice rocker/bouncer thing, more than i spent on either of the other two.

i desperately wanted to buy him a pram but couldn't justify the money for 6 months use... maybe in your situation that would be a good one.

the great thing about having lots of handme down clothes is you can buy some of the cute stuff you might not have been able to splash out on with older kids where the necessities like babygrows came first and foremost...

either that or save it til the baby's a bit older and you can get it some toys you might not otherwise have splashed out on.

A new travel bag or large going out for the day spare clothes for everyone bag. A new sling and I'm eyeing up a tummytub. Oh and we bought a new baby swing as the other one died after dd used it. It was the only thing that let me have meals in peace.
Agree about buying the odd special thing being a bonus as you dont need the essentials

I bought a new 3 wheeler - 1st pushchair i have ever had from new. Still use it and dd is nearly 3!

New car seat - you are supposed to replace them after 3 babies I think because of wear and tear, and the fact that the ones on sale now will likely be safer than the ones on sale when #1 was born.

And a new pram/pushchair to go with it as they are always fun to shop for!

We got:

A new posh latex mattress so comfy I want to sleep on it myself.

A Hippychick seat to save my back.

New Maxi Cosy car seat.

Nice organic toiletries instead of Johnson's.

A new changing bag (mice ate the old one!)

A lacy baby shawl to look nice in the photos and hand down.

A great teddy.

Wait a few months and buy a lovely new McLaren. By dc3 my buggy was knackered and it was like pushing a tank.

DH made me promise that was the last pushchair we were buying. EVER.

A new cot as the cotbed we'd had since child number 4 was looking tatty to say the least! But my biggest expense was a pram (babystyle Lux leatherette carrycot 3 in 1 in pink of course) I love big prams -great for shopping and for all the coats and lunchboxes when walking to and from school, and I wanted a pink one because when I had my first 3 daughters you couldnt get pink prams, the lovely colours you get now werent available 8 years ago and I saw a gorgeous girly one I loved when I was pregnant with number 6 but he was a boy so I couldnt get it so this time I insisted on splashing out on a pram that I adore!!

For dd#3 we bought a beautiful pink phil & teds double pushchair(to use with dd#2 also) and a gorgeous new changing bag that i adore. Also got lots and lots of beautiful baby clothes in 3-6 month size! Baby girl clothes i just cannot say no to even if the atttic is already full to bursting with more of the same.

All the new stuff made and still makes me sooooo happy and was so worth it!

Yeah i had to get a present for a newborn baby boy yesterday and was really disapointed with the choice in Asda clothes. Lots of gorgeous girl things (had to put hands in pockets to stop self buying more!) but not much nice at all for tiny boy babies. Ended up getting a so so trousers top and hat combo. You'd think the shops would make more effort - at least half of babies are boys after all!!!!

The other thing we splashed out on for no.3 was a new car, wanted one where we could get their 3 car seats across the middle row (the girls are 4, 21 months and 6 weeks). Also wanted big boot for double buggy. Will you be able to use the car you have with 4 or might you need to change?

Report
Sorrento · 15/04/2009 22:35

No we will need a new car although we'd be buying that anyway, three tall girls need 5 proper seats at least.

Not even pregnant yet, should be May (IVF) but i think I'll treat myself to all the matching Mamas and Papas nursery stuff, for one reason or another I have never decorated a nursery so I'll have my chance at last

Good luck for May, very exciting! I hadn't done a nursery before dd#3, it is very enjoyable so understand where you're coming from! I love the pink and white gingham curtains dp bought and brought home as a surprise, he knew i really wanted to find some. Will dc4 be your last? I am all babied out after dd#3! I always wanted 3 and feel like we are all done now.

Oh god yes 4 is absolutely my limit, am rather terrified at the prospect. We had three very close so this will be my luxury take time to enjoy it child, 6 years younger than my current baby.

You will be able to take baby and go back to bed after doing the school run! Luxury! Unless of course the egg splits and you get twins....LOL!!!

Just thought of one really good splash out buy for a baby. The tiny love baby mobile, it is extortionate at about £55 but it is as good a mobile as you will ever see. each of my 3 has been mesmorised by it and happy to watch it for ages at a time! You can get it from mothercare i think. Dp built a stand for ours so we use it more in the living room than on the cot. It is ace with lots of moving bits. I enjoy watching it myself!
