2-year age gap. Anyone manage without a double buggy?

I'm expecting a baby in August and DD3 will be a couple of weeks short of 2. I've had doubles before and found them really bulky and cumbersome.

Just wondering if anyone has managed with a similar age gap and avoided a double buggy. Maybe using a sling for the first few months til the toddler is walking more?

my dds were 2 yrs 2 wks apart
i managed no problem with a seat to go
the older child can stand or sit on the seat
when the child is walking you can take it off easy and put it under the pram
my dd1 even fell asleep quite safely on the seat to go a few times!

Congratulations - i remember you from the August 07 thread. No 4 - so brave! I like the idea but think my mind and body couldn't take it! Have you seen Uki is expect no.3 in August too

I've got 2 lots of 2 years gap and never had a double buggy. Used the sling for as long as possible. The buggy we've got (a silver cross but the M&P pilko is the same) has a toddler step on the back - much better for the back than a buggy board and you can get up and down curbs with it.

I have a 23 month age gap. I bought a double buggy which I used for 6 months. (Maclaren basic double). During that time it was invaluable. I then passed it on to a childminder friend. I think they are necessary, but maybe consider getting a second hand one to save money? becuase you dont need one for long ime

i bought one and dd1 looked so ridiculous in it i gave it away and made her walk.

ds1 was in a carrier most of the time, so i only made her walk when he was in the buggy lol...

i've just short of 2 years between dc1 and 2, and 20 months between dc2 and 3.

22 months between my two.
I wanted to get a buggy board, but was told that the frame of my buggy was too fragile.
So I had to get a double buggy, mostly because my first hated to walk in town for a long, long time...

20m between first two. sling and buggy for first 6m, double buggy after 6m. I hated it with a passion!

23m between DD2 and DD3 - sling and buggy all the way - baby went on my back in ergo or mei tai after 6m!

21m between DD3 and DD4 - baby in sling, toddler in buggy, children walk

Not here. Our were 22 months apart. DC1 was walking but not long distance, double buggy was essential! We invested in a Jane Powertwin (secondhand) and it was a dream with two undertwos! We do need to get rid of it now but I loved it so much

18 months gap here, and no double buggy. dd was in a sling mostly for the first two months, and then ds had a seat to go. Can I recommend that you get your first child used to reins, and use them while on the buggy board?

It depends on the toddler and how much walking you do.

I had an 18 month gap and lived in the country and needed one.

Then a 2y 10 month gap and lived in town with one at school and needed one again for all the walking we did. We had a lunchtime pickup to do and DD just couldn't cope with doing the school run 3x a day.

Soon to be a 2y 4 month gap and we live in the country again and I'm hoping to cope without a double. DD2 is a good walker and we drive near to places and then walk, trying not to be too ambitious.

Oh, and I've never got on with slings or a buggy board (where we live is very hilly).

Maybe a bit off topic, but I loved my double buggy and 2 cutie pies in it [sickening sentimental emoticon]. My first 2 were 12 months apart (and 10 very important days).. I had a Out'n'About Double Nipper.

fruitymum - it's a buggy board with a sitting bit on it too. ds never actually sat on it though.

I have a 26 month age gap between the boys and DS1 used his buggy board (lascal 3 G) really happily.

there have been a handfull of occasions in the last 2 years where he didn't want to stand but because we had it on the back of the M&P MPX chassis he could sit down and put his legs out in front of him in the huge shopping basket underneath.

My friend had a seat to go and found it was hard to walk with the buggy as she had to stand much further back - but I guess it depends on what base you attach it to and your own height etc.

My DD will be 3 and 3/12 by time next babe arrive and walks well - but we tend to do alot of walking with the dog - miles at a time. Have a baby bjorn sling but thinking of a sling for next one.

dd and ds are 18 months apart and i never had a double... just a sling and a single.

worked just fine and i have to say i never felt i should have bought a double.

ds and dc3 will be 2.5 years apart and i'm not getting one again, have bought a buggy board though as he's a bit lazier than dd was with regards the walking

23 months between my first two. I got a maclaren double buggy v cheaply second hand and was really glad to have it for the first few months. It was narrow enough to get through doorways, light and easy to fold down, but reclined enough for a newborn to lie flat. I then passed it on to another family - it's probably still going. Would highly recommend a maclaren but not sure about any other doubles.

16 months between mine. Tried a doublebuggy but it was too cumbersome, bulky and really difficult to manoeuvre in shops etc. Ended up with a sling and a single. I must say, it encouraged my older one to get used to walking.
