learning development in twins

I have 11 year old identical twin girls (+3 more girls!) who are starting Y7 in September. I don't have any real concerns about their social or educational development (they're above average) and they are reasonably good pre-teens (as good as it gets for girls soon to be starting periods!) When they were little I read an article about twins not really 'coming into their own' in terms of educational development until around the age of 14. After that, it all comes together and they often do really well and take off, often above their peers. Has anyone else ever come across anything like this?
